Why is it, when i am turning the binding edges over to stitch down on the top of the quilt ;3 corners are perfect and the one has to fight back and look crappy??

did you check to see if the corners were square before you started the binding?

ya know, my question exactly...i have the exact same problem...3 good miters, 1 crappy miter, and it doesn't matter what i do, i can work on the binding and get around 2 then stop and go back later to do the other 2...somewhere along the way, 1 miter does not ... miter...it's a crazy thing; helps to keep me humble i guess; if i ever get 4 perfect miters...LOOK OUT WORLD!

I'm pretty good at mitered corners. I use my 12" square ruler & make sure corners are square. Then, when stitching the binding, make sure you don't under or over stitch to the corner. Put a dot at the 1/4" from the corner if you have to. When you turn a corner, lift the presser foot & fold the binding so that it is exactly even with top edge & when you start stitching the next side, make sure your needle is in the same place as where you stopped on last side.

I have better luck when I press them well. First I press down before turning. Then I press the edge of the binding away from the quilt all the way around the quilt. It seems to turn with much less effort on my part. The only problem I had a few times is that no matter how I lay it out and shift it around before I sew the binding to the quilt, the seam comes too close to the corner and adds a little bulk.

Katie I have the same complaint! No matter how careful I am I always have a seam right where I want to turn the corner. Frustrating!

Oh my gosh, same problem here for 14 years. What's up with that one darn corner, makes me crazy.

When I restat sewing I sew right from the beginging over where I stopped at the 1/4 mark. Just like making a 1/4 in. seam from begining to next 1/4 mark. Hope this helps

Yeah, I am not alone! I thought it was just my dumb luck and now I find I am not alone.

Well I guess I have lots of company.

Nice to know I'm not the only one. What helps me most is ironing the binding before hand stitching.

Sometimes I either have to take out a stitch or two or add them to get the corners to mitre correctly :D:D:D
