YEEPPEEE! My DWR queen/king quilt is nearly done. I will send it to the quilter this week. I haven't cut the bias binding yet and was wondering how wide I should cut it. I generally use 2 1/2" but to get around all of those rings in and out the curves, should it be narrower? Or is this just personal preference? Thanks in advance for any help. Thanks Sue

I would love to know the answer to this also. I have an unfinished quilt in my closet with the same curves, etc. and I am clueless as to how to bind it - thought about cutting them off.

I think it really boils down to personal preference.

As long as you're cutting bias binding, the width shouldn't really make a difference. Technically, it shouldn't be any harder to apply on the curves than on a regular quilt, and .
Well, except for those inside miters. A of them. All around the whole quilt. ;-)

Ahhh, don't cut those curves off. Here's a really good guide to making inside miters:

Thanks for the video link. I've bookmarked that one because I know I will forget how to do that before I actually need to do it!! Does anyone know how show judges feel about that kind of facing rather than binding?

i was at the mancuso quilt show in NJ and a number of quilts had facing and won ribbons.

its a very popular style with art and contemporary quilts.

i was really surprised just how many quilts had a facing instead of a binding.

it had to be about 50 or so quilts.

I am starting one right now, and I am SO nervous!!!!!!!!!! I cant even imagine bindin it, lol! They are so beautiful though!

I may just try the facing method, that may be better than trying to miter each inside corner. If doing the facing method the fabric would not need to be bias cut???? IS this correct or does it still need to be bias cut???

Excellent video! Thanks so much for sharing. I just finished a DWR table topper & hate the way the binding looks. I think I'll try this method on my next one that has the 2 color rings. :thumbup:
