Does anyone have a link for instructions about doing a binding on a quilt?

Also, I'd like to put a label on the back since the quilt is a gift.... how do I do that?? Do I start with something that is premade and embroider that? I guess I could do just about anything but would love to hear some ideas!

THANKS!!

I found this video tutorial to be very helpful when I was learning how to do the binding:

I'm not so great with bindings, but for the label, you could use word or publisher to write your label and print it on printable fabric. There are so many different fonts and clip art to use in those programs.

I have been using Sharon Schamber's method. You can instructional videos on Youtube. Do a search for "Binding the Angel". Here is a link to part 1 of Binding the Angel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PE0Yq9iGlc

For a beginner...me....the videos were easy to follow , and my binding turned out just terrific!

Do you have an embroidery machine?

If so, I can make one for you. I just need to know what size and shape you want and what format your machine reads, and what writing you want on it.

Youtube has loads of good videos, I used two or three yesterday as I was doing binding on a baby quilt for the first time too. Just type 'quilt binding' or 'quilt binding finishing' or this to that effect. I found them very useful, and did all my mitred corners and joing the two end together easy peasy, with my laptop next to my sewing machine and watching and following with the video, pausing it while I did each bit step by step. I felt so happy as had been very nervous about doing it.

These are the ones I used: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ot7Trk6J2Vw

Good luck!

have very easy instructions on how to make your own continuous bias (the spiral binding that was mentioned in an earlier post) at http://pir8.freeservers.com/quilting/CBT/

And to help you end the binding ends perfectly, I have another easy set of instructions at http://pir8.freeservers.com/quilting/ending-double-fold-binding/ .
