I am wanting to make a black and white quilt but seem to be having a hard time choosing fabrics.
I can find lots of black with white designs, but not alot of white with black designs. I don't even have a pattern figured out yet. I was thinking something like a Turning Twenty but am leaning towards a Log Cabin. I saw one and never book marked it that I liked so here I am ... Stuck! I went to 3 quilt shops today and found 4 fabrics I liked... Can anyone give me any input to spure my creative juices? I am Stuck!!! Sorry for the long post but I have never had this much of a challenge picking or finding fabrics... Thanks again Everyone! Kirsten |
Kirsten use the search button above, just type in box and it will take you to links on the board on your chosen subject :D

Thanks Izzy...
Looked at those and got more confused... Kirsten |
My first thought when reading your post, was the log cabin pattern. Then you had already said it. I think it would be stunning in that type of pattern. You could use all of your black w/white fabrcis on one side of the block then your white w/black prints on the other side. Just my idea, good luck picking your pattern. :D

working on this. Gale |
Are you adding a pop of another color? If so, I really like a trip around the world or many trips around the world. Even an irish chain or double irish chain.

that's cool Gail. I made mine with a pattern I made up- kind of a coins- short strips going horizontal with long strips- black, red, black, going vertical to break it up and give it a pop of color.

Here are some black and white log cabins to look at:

Kirsten, when I made a black and white quilt for my son I spent over a year collecting fabrics. It is much harder to find black on white than the other way around. The only advice I can give you is to keep looking and collecting. Here are a few websites for you that have some with white backgrounds. Hope it helps you.

Here is the one I made for my daughter. It is called Three Bean Salad, cause the original pattern was in ruby, gold and olive green colored florals. It was so easy, I made the top in one day. |

I did google the pattern name and they sell it online. The most interesting thing I found was a finished three bean salad quilt for sale -- it was very pretty in different shades of blue. Price -- $525.00 I think I'll just make my own..... |
Hi:
I just finished doing a quilt with black and white fabric and it is a lot of fun I used a pattern I have made another one also using different coordinating colors for each square. I used the pattern called stitched scrappy quilt and then i did the piano keys for the border since it was all black and white. It turned out real nice. If you want to pm me you e-mail address I will send you a picture of it. I had to keep looking also for fabric but I just kept plugging along. I found a lot at Joanns and Hancocks . Good Luck and keep quilting. bigsky |

This is the black, white and red all over pattern I "borrowed" from Marcia. It's just a simple log cabin and goes together quick. I'm not done with it. Just about half way there. And you are right. It can be hard to find fabric that works.

Okay...
Now I feel better that I have to "search" for the fabrics...and now have time for a design to percolate in my head and search for patterns and do more research. I have never done one before and also am trying to get out of my usual quilting patterns and colors and combinations... Hence, a B&W quilt... Not making it for any thing special...just need an excuse to buy fabric since I am trying to make do with using up my stash this year... Thanks again everyone! Kirsten |
