I was reading about hand quilting and there was a suggestion to spit on things to remove blood. yuck!! I use peroxide. and it works great, my mom told me this long ago.

I'll have to tell my Mom about peroxide, she always ends up with a spot or two on her quilts. She dilutes clorox and dabs with Q-tips. Never heard of using spit, I thought that was just for my dirty face! Oh the memories of that hanky she used to spit on to wash my face!! LOL

LOL, that's funny. Actually, spit only works on your own blood.......no one else's. And that's only if you don't have peroxide handy. I wouldn't dare use bleach. Oh my. I'd have holes all over the place. :shock:

FYI ~ Don't let peroxide sit too long, it will eat a hole through eventually...don't ask how I know :oops: .

I have LOTS of experience with this, not only on quilts but on clothes.

Now, we're talking about a "spot" not a glob. I have often had nosebleeds that spot the front of my shirt. If you spit on it (and I've even sort of sucked in and out on the fabric) it disappears almost entirely. Of course you would want to wash it in mild soap and rinse with clear water soon after.

As another member said, this only works on your own blood, not on anyone else's.

Spit only works on your own blood? that is so weird. I've never heard that before!

A dot of shampoo (no green, like prell, for some reason green shampoo stains cloth) diluted with a drop or two of water will take blood out of anything. If at all possible work the blood out from the back of fabric to the front...that way you push the stain out the same way it went in. Front to back sometimes pushes the stain deeper into the fibers and takes a little more work to get out. My mother had a massive nose bleed (required a trip to the er) over a white w/green pinstripe night gown I had just bought her for her birthday. Shampoo took it right out even after it had all day to set in. Shampoo is designed to clean protiens, and blood, after all is nothing but protien. When hand sewing my shelf sitter dolls, I usually have more than one blood drop on them...just dab at it with a white cloth or guaze pad and poof alllll gone!

Quick Biology lesson... Saliva begins the digestion process by breaking down the protiens and nutrients in food. It also has the ability to break down your own blood because it is the same DNA, which means the blood spot has no defense against the saliva.

Clear as blood?? :D

I have also heard lemon juice works... I know it is a great "bleach"!! (especially when you're out to lunch in a new blue blouse and the lemon you squeeze into your tea splashes you... you end up with these nice little irregular dots everywhere it lands) :oops:
