I am going to make a quilt for a wedding gift. The couple want blue and white. Can anyone direct me to patterns that look good with just two colors and they being blue and white?

Thanks for the help

Irish Chain would be good.

How about a log cabin? Depending on how many blues and whites you have.

Dingle 12-31-2010 05:22 PM

I did Jacobs Ladder in 2 colors. Blue and white. Turned out great and is easy to do.

This is a wedding quilt I am currently working on in light blue and brown (the couple's favorites). It's called Road Trip by Lehman Quilting.

I did two hunters star wall hangings and a lap size and I didn't paper piece it at all. you just have to make sure that you get the shapes cut all the same size. your blocks might not come out to be exactly 12 1/2 but that is okay if you are doing only one pattern.
Does it have to be all one shade of blue? what a bargello with lots of shades of blue and white?

I like this one:

I would definitely use multiple whites and blues. That can go a long way to many different pattern choices. Don't think in terms of two colors or two fabrics - think in terms of two colors but using light, medium and dark. Good Luck and enjoy the process. They will love it. You can even ask them, would you like gold, black or another added to the blue and white or Just shades of blue with white.

the other day I read a thread on this board asking about what quilt could be made for a wedding quilt, one of the posts was a blue and white quilt that was made of Jacob's ladder and Sarah's choice (these were the bride and groom's names) another suggestion was using 2 blocks with names of the states the b & g were born in.

I made an Ohio Star pattern with just blue and white. Just in case this might be something like you are looking for...here is the picture. It is my first traditional quilt, and I am happy with it. It isn't a bed size though. You would need more squares for that.

i love 2 color quilts

Ladyjanedoe 12-31-2010 07:46 PM

Burgoyne Surrounded. There are even some cool books with variations.Elizabeth Hamby Carlson comes to mind.

That's lovely :)

I also love 2 color quilts. The antique 2 color quilts are highly sought after. You can make just about anything- Ohio Star comes to mind but there are a lot more.

Thanks for the help

I've made a very simple one in blues and white.
I only needed to make a throw size so stopped after the 'wheel' but you could add a border and make it a larger size really easy.

An old pattern that is beautiful in 2 colors is the Faceted Jewwl, dont remember who puts it out but probably can google it. I did it in various greens and off white and loved it.

ocean waves, storm at sea, or Indiana Puzzle.

AlwaysQuilting 01-01-2011 05:21 AM

there's a book called Blue and White quilts by Mary Koval.
Amazon might have it.

costumegirl 01-01-2011 05:30 AM

Granky - Love your quilt!!! It is really stunning!!!

judi wess 01-01-2011 05:31 AM

Storm at Sea is a stunning quilt, especially in blue and white.

quilt3311 01-01-2011 05:58 AM

type in blue and white quilts in google or bing, then click on images. Lots should come up.

jitkaau 01-01-2011 06:12 AM

I made a black and white quilt for my nephews wedding last summer.

Dina 01-01-2011 06:45 AM

What beautiful quilts!

quiltlin 01-01-2011 06:59 AM

I made a red/white Jacob's Ladder for my niece and it was smashing. I set it so the diagonals came together in the center.

bob1414 01-01-2011 07:14 AM

www.quilterscache.com has tons of examples using 2 colors. Check out the website - go to the "free block patterns" or whatever it's called. Have fun!!!

matraina 01-01-2011 08:16 AM

I was just going to suggest that Ohio quilt. You can see exactly what it will look like and I think it's beautiful!!!!
