I was going use narrow brown boarder and next on a little bigger with blue on left and umbrella fabric as the last at 5 inches wide. The quilt is for a twin bed and with out boarders it is 56x56. Thanks for your help. |
I like a small brown with a large blue don't like the umbrellas with the quilt. that is just my opinion
May the umbrellas don't go now that i look again
Guess it depends on whether you want to tone your quilt down with the brown, or really make it lively with the wide umbrella border. I tend to lean towards the traditional (brown).
I think the brown should be your large outer border, and I think a smaller strip of the blue would make a great inner border. I don't like the umbrellas with those blocks.
I would use blue first border, brown second border.
I agree with the others. Nix the umbrellas and do narrow blue border and wider brown one. Will be lovely. show us when you finish. :-)
Thanks everyone, I have enough blue for small and outside boarder will be brown. I am glad I ask. I show pictures when I am done. This is Bonnie Hunter's Star struck.
I love that umbrella fabric, I don't know how it would look on the boarder though. I would add the umbrella to the back. :) I can't wait to see it finished. :)
Agree with the others re blue then brown. Will look great. Going to check out Bonnie Hunter again thanks.

I agree, too, but really like the umbrellas. Do you have enough for the back or can you piece it in typical Bonnie style?! It's going to be great!!
Definitely NOT the umbrella!

PS: What's "typical Bonnie style" for backing (from an earlier post)? |

I love the blue and the brown fabric too for the border. If you really want to use the umbrella fabric you could use it for the backing.

I see you've already made up your mind but I'll add my 2 cents - narrow blue and larger brown. No umbrellas! BTW- it's a really nice top so far.
One more voice. Blue, brown and no umbrellas. You are going to have a wonderful quilt.
I think it needs a narrow stopper border so I would use the brown first, then a little wider turquoise and the print wider last. If you use the turquoise border first the turquoise of the quilt blends into it not making a sharp definition between quilt and the border.
I completely agree - l'm not feeling the umbrellas at all.

I would use the blue as a first small border then brown big border. I don't think the umbrella one fits this quilt. IMHO

I agree!! Blue first then brown!! I like umbrellas but not for top. I agree again--if you use it , use it on the back!
If you want 3 borders, and have enough fabric.... I think it would look great to do a brown inner border, blue middle border, and brown larger outer border. Just a suggestion :)
How about all three. Narrow brown, wide umbrella and bind with the turquoise.

2 inch white, 1 inch blue then 3 to 4 inch brown. good luck looks beautiful.

Me too, blue first then brown. Umbrellas would look fun on the backing. Great job on the friendship stars!!
Save the umbrellas for a rainy day... stick to the blue and brown for this project
I would say blue first, then the brown , I like the umbrella fabric but have to agree not for a big border. I have had things like that and used them for the binding . you get the colors without the patterns and use it on the back.

I agree with the choice of a narrow blue, then a bit wider brown. I think the umbrellas are to busy for the rest of your quilt
I would use the blue and then the brown.
I agree with the white first then use both brown and blue.
Just a thought but see what a narrow navy blue 1st border would look like. It's just me but I like to stop the pattern and then maybe add it after the 1st frame.
There is quite a study on how to know where quilters live - you can tell it by the way they choose their borders. No kidding. Just like the Amish - different solid colors and patterns per region. I don't have the info on that any longer but it is quite interesting. I like your quilt - that blue and brown with the white is so calming. |
I like a thin blue and a wide brown border. I don't care for the umbrellas as a border fabric, but, if you have enough, maybe use it as your back.
