I have always wanted to make a BOM but after looking at them on the internet I'm seeing that the patterns are like $30 on up! Is this normal? That means that one block is the cost of one whole pattern? I had no idea. Very disappointed since I have troubles coming up with the $9 that most patterns cost. I'll never get to try one.

Don't the BOM come with the fabric also?

We have some listed here for free

Can you find an online BOM where you download the pattern and buy your own fabric? I've seen a few but don't recall where right now. Anyone?

BOM is only sampler patterns that they add the fabric to and sell for lots of money. Get on the internet, pick out a bunch of blocks you like, pick out a line of fabric you like and make your own. Mostly the BOM's are promoting the brand new fabric lines more than the patterns.

If you join "The Quilt Show" at http://www.thequiltshow.com/, you gain access to download Sue Garman's gorgeous 2011 BOMC for FREE.

Each month a new section is made available for downloading.

Also, if you're a member, you could probably also still download the instructions and patterns for both 2010 BOM's.

And they are GORGEOUS!! I don't how she turns out these involved multi-technique quilts year after year.

That's a pretty good deal! They do sell kits but they're pricey. The patterns are free if you're a member.

when you look at BOM's from on line shops the fabrics are included - each month you receive a pattern and fabric kit for that month's block-so yes they can wind up being rather expensive- sometimes you just want to make it exactly like it it- the first BOM i fell in love with cost me almost $400 by the time i had all 12 kits-patterns and finishing kit-
i decided i like to pic out my own fabrics and save $$ but often in you want to do one with just the patterns (not the fabric kits) you will be charged $60-100 just for the patterns.
guess we have to pay for the convienience

My charity quilting group does a bom. There are so many free patterns on line you don't really need to buy and expensive pattern or kit.

Thanks everyone!!! I've just spent the last 3 hours downloading BOM patterns!!! And i found one I'm definitely going to make soon. http://www.littlemissshabby.com/2010...s-supply-list/

I haven't done much with embroidery and this looks fun and fairly easy. Will give me some needlework to do while I waste time watching TV!

I found others too but this will be the first I try.
Thanks again!!

Are you also using the Sunkissed by Moda fabric to go with? I'm thinking that is what I want to use. It looks so cute!
