Bonnet Girls - Information needed on scalloped edges...HELP! Any custom quilters??

Hi, well, i'm up to adding my final border, and try to decide on the scalloped edges. I agree with everyone, the scalloped edges would set this quilt off...I talked to the lady that does the machine quilting for me, and she said she has never done any with a scalloped edge..I asked her if it would be a problem if i cut the scalloped edges before quilting, and she said she thought she could do it..However, I just watched a video on the internet, and it said to quilt the quilt, then cut the scalloped edges, and then bind...does anyone on here do custom quilting, and what's your opinion on this..sure don't want to mess this quilt up since I am so far on it...Thanks for your input...It is appreciated..

you should mark your scallops but not trim the quilt yet. the quilting can be done then you add binding and then trim and turn the binding to the back. have fun!!

I discussed this with my LAQ awhile back, and she said to mark where the scallops would be cut, and then cut them later. She'd LAQ accordingly, knowing what would happen.

When you think of it, she really does need the straight edge to get it onto the machine and stretched out flat. Your scalloped edge would soon stretch out of place and be ruined.

That being said ... if this person has NOT done such before ... I'd be finding someone who know what s/he is doing and that you have full confidence. This quilt is too beautiful and you've put so much work into it that I wouldn't take any risks ... at all!!!

A thought from the peanut gallery ... To me all the handwork you have done, is calling for handquilting rather than LAQ. Have you considered finding someone to handquilt it for you?

I agree that you might want to hand quilt this masterpiece! Do you have a time frame? Hand quilting will take longer of course.
Absolutely just mark but don't, don't cut the scallops before quilting it, as I mentioned in your last post.
I have combined hand quilting with machine quilting. I have also quilted with a DSM for the fine detailing, then finished on the longarm (don't have microhandles on the longarm).
This quilt is gonna be just so awesome!!!!
