A friend has asked me to recommend websites and books for someone beginning patchwork and quilting. She wants to have a go, but we don't live near enough to each other for me to help (even if I were good enough myself to do so!). Obviously I'll be telling her to come here :-) , but what other resources have people found helpful?

When I started last year I "googled" easy beginning quilt patterns and got a whole lot of information.

http://quilterstv.com
Best place for tv type videos of the famous quilters.
Also QNNTV except you have to pay 25 dollars a year. Worth it for a newbee.
I found the best teacher for a beginer is Eleanor Burns.
She teaches like you know nothing. Her Quilt in a Day books are the best for beginners also.
Her videos are on her website and on television and on quilterstv.

I have been saving links to my Quilting for Beginners Blog (the link is below here)

also google Beginning Quilting Tutorials, Beginning Quilting Free Patterns, etc.

Be sure to have her join us here on the Quilting Board

I just love the Dummie books. Made my first quilt from one. Googling anything quilt will get her all the answers she needs.

Eleanor Burns is great for beginners. Her website is www.quiltinaday.com. Joins seems to have a good variety of her books.

Many thanks Annesthreads and everyone. I have spent a happy time browsing the links and making a shopping list of books. I don't know if I will ever do any quilting yet, I have so much sewing and knitting to do, but I have never realised before how interesting quilting is.
