I've recently found that they make a border hoop for the hand quilters out there. I have one, and it makes it SO much easier to work on my borders. You pin the quilt to a leader cloth, and then stretch it over this 'half hoop'. Anybody ever see them?: http://www.laptophoops.com/Sale.html I have the cheaper one for $24.99 called a Custom Frame Border Hoop. LOVE the thing.
How do you guys typically work on your borders, anyway? I just used a regular hoop, but had to keep moving my work over as I quilted. |
That hoop looks great! I think the guy who makes them is a member here, so he is able to answer any questions.

I use a floor frame, so it's not an issue. I have used a hoop in the past, in which case I just pinned the quilt to a towel, so I had enough fabric to hold the tension.

I sewed muslin to the edges of the quilt with large stitches that were fast to remove.
|
I also baste a fabric strip which was a leftover of a wholecloth to the quilt edges. It works fine.

I use an embrodery hoop for the last little bit around the edges

I have one that I got at a garage sale once. It works great!
