Me and my husband were in a thrift shop today, and we seen a box that said 'Sears Sewing Machine Attachments'. My machine is a Singer #4538. My mom gave it to me, and I only have the regular sewing foot that came with it. How can I know if any of those attachments/feet might work on mine?

The whole box is only $3.00, and yes for that I should have just got them, but I just got through buying all the other deals she had. lol....I bought a bunch of new different color embroidery thread for .39 each, and regular thread for .50 a spool of all different colors.

I sure would be happy to hear from any of you fine folks that might offer some ideas.

Thank You
JuneBillie

for $3.00 I would buy them and try them on your machine if they don't fit take them to your repair man ask him what they would fit on he should be able to tell you then sell them here plus postage of course! LOL

Most older Kenmore machines were long shank, whereas most machines are short shank. If you are interested in the accessories, take your presser foot with you and compare the length of the shaft that goes between the foot and the machine. Short shank is 1 1/4", long shank 1 3/4". I wish shipping weren't so high. I could use them if you can't.

I found a siimilar box of machine accessories and couldn't pass them up for just $3.00 even though I know they don't fit the machine I'm currently using. They're for a Singer--no idea of model but they are long shank--right now I'm using my
brother disney embriodery machine because I have 1/4 in seam foot for it. Hoping they might fit the older Singer in the bottom of the closet especially since there were 2 walking feet in it. If not maybe I'll sell them in the board.

Here is a link that shows you how to figure out what shank size your machine is (and would allow you to figure out what shank the feet in the box are):

There are a couple of links to charts listing shank size/type by brand and model.

Another thing you can do is take a foot from your Singer with you to the thrift shop and compare its shank to the shanks in the box.

There is also the side mount and the back mount accessories, so you have to determine where the mounting screw is.

I bought a box last year for $1.00, made by Griest Comapny, and they will fit Singers I think, don't know which models.

to avoid problems- singer attachments should be used on singer machines- and kenmore attachments on kenmore machines---ect.
when you use attachments that do not really fit your machine you can break needles- mess up timing, have all sorts of different problems.
some times a (deal) can wind up costly in the long-run
