Broke my sewing machine needle...in my finger!

I was happily quilting this afternoon when all of a sudden I got my finger in the way of the needle. Ouch! It went through the nail and broke off in my index finger. I had to get my husband and a pair of pliars to get it out. I don't recommend it.

Oh, that must have hurt. Getting queasy just thinking about it. Hope it isn't still throbbing.

auntpiggylpn 10-08-2012 07:37 PM

Ouch! How did your husband handle it??? I've seen many a man hit the floor over something squeamish!

slk350 10-08-2012 07:37 PM

Ouch !! That must have really hurt...I'm always stabbing myself with flower pins

Oh I did that very same thing this summer. It hurt so badly at the time, but I was quite surprised that it didn't stay sore. It was weird for awhile when the nail grew out though.

Is tour Tetanus shot up to date? I would make sure and get one just to be on the safe side.

Tartan 10-08-2012 07:55 PM

OUCH! Hope you heal well and that you are back to sewing soon.

JustAbitCrazy 10-08-2012 09:46 PM

Yikes! I hope it's feeling better and you are back to yourself soon. Your description gave me the shivers! (Btw, your cat is really beautiful!)

Oh how painful. I feel sick thinking about. I hope it heals for you soon. Take care.

Husband did quite well. A sense of caring and urgency mixed in with a little panic, but he was a trooper.

Tetanus shot is current. I got one two years ago when I sliced the tip of my finger with my rotary cutter. My poor index finger is a quilting victim.

Makes me shiver to think about it. Wishing you a quick recovery.

tezell0801 10-09-2012 04:17 AM

Oh my, makes me queasy to think about it. Hope it is not too sore today. Be careful!

grammy Dwynn 10-09-2012 04:24 AM

Ouch!! Hope everything heals okay. Plus I hope you didn't get any blood on the quilt you were working on. :(

Fuzzykittenbutt 10-09-2012 04:25 AM

oh my goodness. In a similar freak accident my significant other managed to ram a metal splinter from a friend's stool through his nail and it got stuck in the bone. A surgeon had to remove part of the nail to get the brittle piece of metal out that was stuck in his bone!

Luckily needles are stronger and your's came out all in one piece the first try!

pollyjvan9 10-09-2012 05:17 AM

Oh, wow, so sorry! I have done everything from cutting the side of my finger off, to dropping a portable on my big toe, but - thank heavens - I have never gotten a needle in my finger. Hope you are back to quilting quickly.

Dandish 10-09-2012 05:39 AM

Oh man! I did that several years ago and had to wait for DH to get home to get it out with pliers too! What did I do in the mean time? Took pictures! lol. Hope you heal well/quickly!

joyce888 10-09-2012 05:43 AM

OMG I hope you went to the doctor! Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Welcome to the club! We have jackets and everything, lol. Make sure your tetanus shot is up-to-date and get a hug and a piece of chocolate from hubby.

Anael 10-09-2012 06:27 AM

I did that too a long long time ago. I watch where my fingers are ever since :D

Murphy1 10-09-2012 06:47 AM

I am still woozy just thinking about it. Glad hubby was there for you.

I sewed through my finger once. Had to go to urgent care to get it out. No tetanus shot for me though, I'm allergic to it. It hurt worse when they pulled it out than when it went in. Definitely NOT something I want to repeat!! Hope yours heals as well and as quickly as mine did:thumbup:

Buckeye Rose 10-09-2012 11:55 AM

I did the same thing this summer, only the needle broke into 4 pieces and left 3 of them in my finger.....short story is that it got infected and required surgery to get out big piece....please keep an eye out for swelling, redness or fevers....all sure signs of infection....and make sure all of the pieces are out!

momto5 10-09-2012 04:53 PM

I don't care HOW tough you are...that HURTS! Sorry, hope it's better soon!

Dina 10-09-2012 06:29 PM

I hope it heals quickly!! And I agree that your cat is beautiful!!
