Broken Walking Foot

Has anyone ever had the bottom of their walking foot just fall off? This just happened to me with a Brother walking foot. The metal piece on the bottom came off. I took it off the machine in two pieces. Good thing I had a back up!

I had one I got with a box of sewing stuff years ago. Took me a while to try it but loved it from the start. The bottom piece did fall off from time to time and I had to reset it but I used it for a long time. Finally bit the bullet and bought one at JoAnn's for about $20 and It has never come apart! (yet) LOL

Yes, I have had that problem and others with walking feet. Several Brother ones and several generic. I've used them on different machines. Also, the little white thingy that goes over the screw sometimes breaks if it is plastic. I have a foot with a metal one of those now.

I think I will hunt for a metal one. Thanks.

I bought a generic walking foot and the whole thing just fell apart while quilting with it. I had it for less than 2 weeks. I.contacted the reputable online site that I oedered it from and right away ordered the one specifically for my Janome and I haven't had any problems since

I have broken 2 WF by going in reverse...a sewing machine guy told me they are not made to go in reverse...think about it...when your sewing with it the thing rotates forward...duh!

I have one that has a little screw under the plastic cover that comes loose every so often. Just pop that cover off and use a small srew driver to fix it. Hope that is all you need.

Now you know why some walking feet are $20 and some are $60. There is usually a very good reason for the higher priced one other then just a brand name.

I might say, not yet. I have picked up an assortment over the years some for 20 cents at my LQS' tent sale.

Interesting. Mine have just flat "skis" that put pressure on the feed dogs, nothing that rotates so it works in reverse.
