Brother quilting feet recs?

I'm trying to decide which quilting feet to get for my brother pc420.

Would you recommend the 1/4" piecing foot with or without the guide? I want an accurate 1/4" seam. For FMQ, my machine came with the regular clear FMQ foot. Does it work well or is the open toe metal for better? Do you recommend the quilting guide bar?

Last question... Any good source for the best price on authentic brother feet? I found some excellent prices on eBay but my gut tells me they are too good to be true and knock offs, even though it doesn't say so. I don't want to waste money buying junk so would prefer quality the first time.

Thanks!

I have the guide on mine. I find it very useful.

I did get mine on ebay...but I am sure you could get it where ever brother products are sold. I have a different machine.

good luck

For the 1/4 inch foot .. go with the guide! I have both and much prefer the guide.

I'm using the one with the guide. I'm a beginner and figured I could use all the help I could get, :o. I couldn't find a brother foot locally, but the owner of the lqs said she had sold a babylock foot to a brother owner and it worked. I went for it and mine works like a charm! Good luck with whichever you decide.

Me too! Although, one thing to remember is that even though I don't sew over pins (most of the time :o,) the guide extends further past the foot and I have to remember to pull the pin out faster than usual otherwise it skews the seam.

The clear FMQ foot for your Brother will work fine. I prefer clear because you can really see what you're doing.

I found all of my Brother feet on Amazon at competitive prices.

Some people prefer the guide (I do! I can't sew straight without it), and others don't like it (if they sew over pins or if they don't like moving the needle--which you sometimes have to--or if they have other markings on their plate that they find useful).

Yes, I like the quilting guide bar for straight-line quilting. Lately, however, I've been using blue painter's tape.

I must go with the majority - go for the one with the guide. It is wonderful.
I have had no problem FMQ with the clear attachment.
Best of luck with your new machine.

I really like the 1/4 inch foot with the guide. It makes your stitching so easy. My Brother machine came with the open quilting foot and I like it. I got the clear plastic one to compare and am trying it out. I haven't decided yet but if I end up liking the open toe better, I will return the clear foot. My dealer is wonderful about this kind of thing. I am very new to FMQ- just tried it last week on some muslin sandwiches so I can't speak from experience. I had a blast just trying it. Fun!!!!

I forgot- I really like the walking foot too.
