Hi. You may have read I'm giving my friend a gently used Husqvarna/Viking Lily sewing machine for a surprise gift. The only wear and tear on the machine is a line of scratches made from the placing and removal of the case as it slides over. I'd love to buff these out if at all possible, but I'm not sure it is. Does anyone know if it's possible to buff out scratches from plastic, and if so, how? Thanks! :?:

IMHO, I would try to use just a little bit of car buffing paste. Clean with soap and water, then you should be able to dry buff.

I don't know anything about what that particular machine looks like.

Based on my old Singer machines - If the paint is scratched down to the metal I don't think you could 'buff' it out. If it's not scratched down to the metal, I'd try the lightest possible approach first and work my way to harder approaches.

I'm sure she'll be happy that you bought it for her as long as it sews!

I have had good luck buffing out scratches on the plastic carrying cases using the special cleaners for solid surface cooktops.

That's a better option than using the car buffing paste that I had first thought and posted. Thank you for sharing I'll have to remember that product for any future situations.

I don't have any advice for removing the scratches, but I could not reply to you post yesterday about how to give your friend the machine becuase my cat was on my arm! I would send her on a scavanger hunt with different notes leading her to differnt places & ending up at the machine. Maybe toward the end of the hunt include some little notions with the hints. When my daughter got her 1st cell phone she knew she was getting it & I didn't just want to wrap it & give it to her, so I sent her on a big hunt all over the house & even outside! We still laugh about it!
