Oh I love my stash. I actually had to make a stash to create my first quilt (I had only sewn clothing before and honestly had nothing suitable for quilting) and that stash contributed to my second quilt and by then I was surely bitten and in the throes of neeeeeeeeeddddddiiiiinnnnnggggg more fabric!!!!!

Now, I go with the flow. If the fabric speaks to me, I buy a little. If it yells at me, I buy a little more. Sometimes I look at my stash and scratch my head, but a week ago, I pulled out a bunch of red white and black blocks that I had (mostly) completed about 5 years ago. I finished off enough for a twin sized quilt. Then I went back into my stash and pulled out a bunch of Japanese blocks that had been gifted to me. I ended up opening the blocks and, using black sashing, recreated identical sized blocks. So, my aim is to make a reversible quilt--red white and black on one side and Japanese panels on the other. This will be my winter project.

So to stash or not to stash, ahhhhh that really is the question.

YOU DON'T WANT A STASH!?? ARE YOU RUNNING A FEVER WITH THAT FIT!! HA!! HA!! :p I've never heard of the such! I reckon I'm a fabrihollic! (or however you spell it!) I have about 10 totes full of fabric and even gave my sister a load of batiks for Christmas and still have more than I'll ever use! I suppose if it came down to it I'd probably get rid of some...note I said some. See the thing is I don't buy clearance. My BF lives in NY and he tells me to order what I want. SO, I order and he pays. When I go to visit he takes me to the Garment District. I always come back home with an extra suitcase. I don't go to the faric stores here, the closest one is 35 miles away. So it's easier for me to shop online. To be honest I do more quilting in my mind than I do for real. Duh me!! ;)

Sigh, I have to much and not enough time. I am trying to downsize it all, but that might take the next millinium. I really need to get on this sight to sell it.

Don't fight it. It is inevitable.

I never understood the whole stash think. I just hear of all those ladies that die and their stash gets sold off for pennies and they never even enjoyed it. I want to enjoy what I purchase

Two words....

STASH happens!!!

Keep the shops OPEN! Buy as you need too vs stockpiling and then avoiding the shops...spread the buying out.

I don't understand not having a stash. It takes no effort to care for or feed a stash, it's not like kids or pets. It costs nothing to maintain a stash, no repairs or medical bills involved. So you don't use it before you die, not your problem anymore and it will bring more happiness to someone else than your clothes, kitchenware and books ever will.

Stash is most definitely enjoyed...the hunt, the find, the pairing up with perfect coordinates all without leaving the house. If you get snowed in for a week or so, you can find exactly what you need for that special project. If a special occasion pops up suddenly, you can easily create an awesome gift with what you already have on hand. If you get an overpowering creative urge in the middle of the night, you can immediately tackle whatever challenge you dream up. If money gets tight for a bit, you don't have to stop making well coordinated quilts. All those things have happened to me at one time or another...or more.

Nope, I'll never give up having a stash. It brings me great joy just by being there...ready for whatever I ask of it. :)

I am much more interested in growing a scrap pile than a stash. Buying for the project works for me.
