So live and learn. I washed all the fabric for my large Hawaiian today and realized that I should have bought larger pieces for the background materials. Even a yard would have done, but thinking a half would suffice per panel since they are relatively small, I found out the hard way it wasn’t sufficient. I should have read the foreword to the pattern book, and read the previous posts beforehand. Luckily they are easy to obtain solids which I can go pick up tomorrow and the additional fabric I’m sure will go to something since they are colorful solids. Live and learn, and learn, and learn, etc.

Now you are truly quilter material Steve, be careful you don't see another for a future project or....probably too late to tell you that one. :D

but i like getting fabrics other people hate. i'm always fascinated to see who hates what; loves what; and whether or not i agree with their "either". i'm kinda sorta trying to build a collection from other people's "what was i thinking?s" when i have enough, i'm going to make a quilt. named ... what else? "What Were They Thinking?"

Carrie, new quilter or not, you have been a member of this forum for over a month! Have we not taught you better? Collect, hoard, buy, swap, grab fabric! You do realize that who ever dies with the most wins, don't you? If you start needing tubs soon, make sure they are see thru' and not those opaque green ones. You have no idea how many tubs you may have to go thru' in years to come, looking for that one perfect fabric! In fact, if you see them on sale, just start buying them now. Once the obsession hits, it may be too late.

Patrice, I think that's such a clever idea :P If you PM me your addy I'm sure I'll be able to find something truly revolting  in my stash to add to your collection

Will a fat 1/4 be of any use, I can't really send any more than that as I have to keep the weight below 200grms to keep the postage viable.

Lyn Mann Teaches a class using 'ugly fabric'. Here's the class description.

"1. THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS AN UGLY FABRIC.

In this this class, students will each bring squares of an ugly (or hard to use) fabric to share. They will also bring a variety of scraps. We will construct a simple scrap quilt while learning how to make any fabric great, depending on what you put with it. A really fun day!!! Many say this is the best class they ever had."

I saw some of the quilts made in this class on Simply Quilts and they were gorgeous! There really is no ugly fabric. You just have to know where to put it.
