Can you help with spiderweb block?
Hi all,
I started an online quilting group to make quilts for cancer patients and the last two months have stumped me!! I cannot figure out how to make a spiderweb quilt and I no longer sew with a quilting group. I have looked and looked at the tutorial, I have looked at another tutorial, but it just is not registering. Maybe it's my ADD - once directions go beyond 10 steps, my eyes glaze over and I quit. Does anyone have a simpler, easy to understand spiderweb tutorial? It needs to end up 12 1/2 inches. Thank you in advance! Nancy |

I used the top link a year or so ago and found it pretty easy. After you do the cut paper patterns a time or two it gets much easier. I really did try to cut accurately on the center solid color and even then all the points didn't work out, but it looks okay to me. Keep trying...it will click and you will be amazed how much fun they are and how many scraps they use up. Good luck.

I am doing the Craftsy block of the month, www.craftsy.com. The blocks for March included the spider web block. Maybe you can go to Craftsy BOM, it is free, and watch the video for March. Hope this helps. I just checked on www.quilterscache.com and there are directions for two types of spiderweb blocks. I like the second best.

I am working on the Spiderweb pattern from Bonnie Hunter's tutorial on her site www.quiltville.com. It is pieced on telephone pages and she has step by step pictures as well as instructions to follow. I started mine with an 8 and a 1/2 inch square paper and cut it in half to get my triangle. When I put my 4 triangles together my block looks about 12 inches. (Not sewn together) In order to get a 12 1/2 inch block, I would play with a paper pattern until I got the size I wanted maybe start with a 9 inch square?

The blocks in my avatar are made from the pattern below.
http://www.quilterscache.com/E/EasySpiderWebBlock.html I used black where it shows white in the picture. Fast and quick to sew and uses up lots of scraps. It is smaller than the size that you wanted but the directions are very clear and easy. Good luck with it. |

I used the same one that busy fingers used - it's very simple and uses up all of your scraps. The base is an 8.5" square of muslin - no paper involved at all.
