Can you mix stretchy minkee with quilting cotton on a quilt top?
Help! I want to make this baby quilt
http://www.sewmamasew.com/media/blog...sBabyQuilt.pdf I found a coordinating fabric for the charm pack which looks better on the back instead of as the sashing, but I wanted to use minkee on this quilt, so I wondered if I could switch and put the coordinating cotton on the back and sash with the minkee. --has anyone tried that? Will the stretchy-ness pull the quilt out of whack, or will the quilting be enough to hold it in place? |
I have successfully mixed minkee and cottons on quilt tops, I've sashed with minkee, I've made quilts with a row of cotton blocks then a strip row of minkee, I've made quilts with cotton background and minkee appliques, and I've made lots of quilts with minkee backs---I see no reason to not do it the way you want to- all of mine have turned out great, and are greatly loved & used- holding up well.

Wow, ckcowl, your response surprises me! I would never expect piecing with minkee to work. I think you're a better piecer than I am, lol! I have only used it for a backing.

I agree with ckcowl as I have done the same.
I would stabilize the minkee with a light stabilizer on the minkee or use elmer's glue when piecing to help with the stretching ability of the minkee. |

I have used minkee as a border. Pin/glue the minkee a LOT, so it can't shift while quilting!! Make sure you quilt more in the minkee section so it can't stretch more than the cotton. Take your time working with it.

actually just completed a baby quilt using minky as one of the fabrics for the blocks and it turned out fine!
