can you print to material?
 

i want to make a special label/block for the back of a quilt for my granddaughter- that will last forever. i don't want to just write on one- i want it to stay just as it is "forever". i had one embroidered once at a local quilt shop- but it had to be too big. i am wondering if i can take what i want to someone & have them print it onto material that i can sew onto the back of the quilt?? thanks so much for your expertise!!

you can buy pre-treated sheets of fabric which you just pop into your printer like paper and away you go

I use Printed Treasures fabric that I buy at JoAnn's, print in the inkjet printer, follow directions on package. The only negative is that the fabric is rather hard to sew by hand. You can also use Bubble Jet Set from HP to prepare your own fabric for printing. However... "forever" is a long time. I'm not convinced that the dye doesn't significantly fade over time.

this is why i put "forever" as such- i realize it won't be forever- but i want it to last until she grows up some- she's only 3. :)

I have tried various printer fabric sheets as well as making my own with bubblejet set. On the quilt using the 'prepared' fabric sheets, the design/words have completely faded after years of use (5+) and washing. Unfortunately I do not know the brand this was. The label that has lasted the best is the one on which I wrote using Pigma permanent fabric pens.

I would also suggest the Pigma pen....will last longer than what you print onto fabric....I just don't think they are meant for 'wear and tear'....more for memory treasures ....
