Can you put a long arm into a table?
 

I think I found a deal on a long arm machine and frame, but I really don't want to mess with the frame. Can you modify a table/desk, etc to mount a long arm into so you can sit at it like the Sweet Sixteen?

I'm sure you can. But I think it is easier to learn machine quilting when the machine moves, not when the fabric moves. Free motion quilting is kind of like trying to write with a stationary pencil, by moving the paper underneath it. If the frame comes with the machine, and you have the room to set it up, I think you should at least give it a try before you modify a table and fit the longarm into a table. There is a learning curve, but it is an easier one thank the one you tackle with fmq'ing, imho.

I find that to be an interesting question - if you did mount it on a table - I would take into consideration your arm reach because you would be moving the fabric and not the machine moving around the fabric - I really don't know - but if its done on a Sweet Sixteen seems like it would be possible. I am interested in what others have to say.

I know this question has been asked before.
I have a Bailey Home Quilter that has a 13" arm. they are also made in 15" and 17".
These are a lot cheaper than long arm machines.
Tthe bed is very narrow but works great on a frame. Actually, frame quilting is easier than
sit down - that is the reason I bought mine 4 years ago. I have gotten my money's worth out of it.

Just went to the quilt and craft show in Del Mar, CA last week and they had an 18" EMPRESS LAQ machine that could be used at a table as well as on a frame. It was offered by ARETOY Quilt shop in Oceanside, CA www.aretoy.net Maybe they could give you some answers.

My frame is the Imperial and it can be set up full length or half length.

I **think** it depends on whether or not the machine can accept a foot pedal. Some machines I've researched cannot be put in a table because they are wired specifically for the handles and aren't made to accept a foot pedal.
