Hubby's best friend has requested another quilt (yay!)

He would love something that reflects his passion..the outdoors and canoeing.

He would love a landscape quilt that has the woods, water and a red canoe in it.

Doesn't anyone know where I might be able to find a pattern for something like this?

Thanks!

Umm.....I am not sure about a patten but there are several lines of fabric with this theme.

Maggie_Sue 06-14-2010 12:54 PM

I recall Natalie Sewell's landscape quilt just like you described. As a matter of fact Nancy's Notions just sent out their class schedule for July/Aug/Sept and that quilt is on the first page advertizing her workshop Friday and Sat Aug 27 and 28th, I am not sure if she has a pattern for this or not.

Thanks for the tip Maggie_Sue.
I will look into it to see if I can even just get a picture!
I figure it will have to be applique for sure :)

Look into Debbie Fields of GRanola Girl Designs. She has books and patterns out. I'm planning to work on a wallhanging with some of her blocks this summer.

Thanks for the tip lots2do!

I cannot draw worth a hoot, but this is the picture that popped into my head. Don't you dare laugh. (No it isn't! It's a bear)

Sugarpumpkin 06-15-2010 10:48 AM

I like your picture :)

Boston1954 06-15-2010 10:53 AM

I just thought of something. You could google simple pictures, such as the ones kids use for coloring. Bears, trees, waterfalls, canoes, all that stuff would be there I bet. You could incorporate them into an applique wallhanging.

(and thanks for not laughing at my drawing)

Sugarpumpkin 06-15-2010 10:56 AM

That is likely what I will end up doing boston...I was just hoping there was an easier way to go about it haha not a huge fan of applique!

I found this picture one time. Saved it because it's cute.

Sugarpumpkin 06-15-2010 11:00 AM

Oh thats adorable! I love it!!

Boston1954 06-15-2010 11:02 AM

It has everything. AND the canoe is red. Nice simple shapes. I bet a dollar you could figure it out.

Sugarpumpkin 06-15-2010 11:02 AM

and I could likely switch the cabin for a tent :)

Or maybe make the cabin smaller and put it in the background. There are a hundred possibilities. I can see it now. Hurry and get started. I want to see it. ;)

Sugarpumpkin 06-15-2010 11:06 AM

Well he likes to camp...and originally requested a tent, but then cut it down to just the red canoe LOL

Sugarpumpkin 06-15-2010 11:08 AM

That is soooo adorable!
I LOVE IT! I will have to ask if he likes this!

Boston1954 06-15-2010 11:09 AM

Good luck. Hope I spurred your imagination.

Sugarpumpkin 06-15-2010 11:10 AM

It just so happens I have this fabric which came in a large bag of material I bought from an estate recently. I was going to post it for sale this weekend on this board for almost nothing except shipping. It is white flannel. Let me know if this interests you.
I have 1 yard of the fabric with canoes and logging men; 2/3 yard of the coordinate with deer and moose.

I would love to see someone use it, especially someone who has a definite vision in mind.

Thanks,
Jennie

canoes are 5" in length

man is 4" tall

Have a look at McKenna Ryan's website. This is one of hers and there are others that you could add a canoe to.

Thanks so much! I had forgotten that the bear and cub was part of a series. It was fun looking at her work. So creative!

There is a beautiful picture of a quilt by Natalie Sewell in her book:

http://www.softexpressions.com/softw...oks/4L0105.php

There is no pattern, but her quilt is used as a teaching example in the book and she tells how she did it. I love her quilt. I tried finding a picture of it, but wasn't able to. You'd have to find the book. Maybe in the library? Or maybe I could scan it and email it to you. PM me if you'd like me to give it a try.
