Hi, I am very new to quilting and would like to make table runners for Christmas using the Card Trick pattern. For as much as I examine the pattern and directions I get myself confused and wonder 1st if anyone has done this and has tips. 2nd am I taking on too much for a new quilter?
I have been sewing for years but not quilting. Thanks in advance Joan |
MollieSue just made a card trick quilt for her son. Check out her thread with pictures of it. I'm sure she will answer any specific questions you have.

Quilterscache has an easy one to do. Works up quickly and looks nice.

yep- the quilterscache one is great. I've used that one many times. It's really not hard to do at all!

It is an easy block, I find that if I kept a picture of the block right next to me that it helped me to remember what pieces to sew where

Hi Joan, here is the one I just finished for my son. With the exception of the first couple of blocks, it was very easy! I agree it would be easier to keep a completed block next to you, or the picture, to be able to place them correctly.
I think you could do it without any problems!!! I thought the pieces were very easy to sew together. :D And if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me, or the others!! http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/list/28818.page :D :D |

Eleanor Burns has a method for doing this called Winning Hand quilts. I have done this block using Quilters Cache pattern and also found it a bit hard to do, you really had to think it out. I actually used this as my block of choice in a Birthday Block swap and a few folk did say they found it pretty hard to do. The EB method broke it down into different steps and I did find that easier to follow.

I love the card trick pattern, I use the pattern from my Block by Block book, so easy. I find that cutting out the pieces and laying them out helps to sew them together right. The first block I made I tore a lot of it apart. Keep your picture handy and the block piece laid out, work across one square at a time in each row (you should have 3 rows of 3 squares). It is an easy block to do after you do the first 1 or 2. Good luck and post pics when done.

Does some one have the card trick pattern that is paper pieced or done in strips? I have spent the last two day trying to figure out this pattern...and it is for beginners?
