Recent purchases are very disappointing- lots of "fillers", polka dots, stripes and just a few "focus fabrics" from the line. These are supposed to be for Halloween & Christmas. I can add to them, but it defeats the purpose of buying a charm pack. I bought these online. Now I know better. Just be careful. No one likes to waste time or $$!

Thanks Dotty!

Most fabric lines have a whole lot of "go withs" and not just all focus fabrics. A full 40 fabric line is going to have several geometrics and tone on tones in addition to the main fabric.

I love charm packs and have never had one that skimped on the focus fabric. I buy Moda precuts.

Was it a Moda or something else? I have also had great luck with Moda and love them. Sorry you didnt get what you thought you were getting :(

Did not pay attention to manufacturer. Another lesson.
I also understand this is the whole line. I have a lot of polka dot color combos. It's okay. More pincushions?!!

I just saw a quilt that was all made in polka dots. It was fabulous. Maybe you have a new project you're accumulating for and don't know it yet!!!

great idea!!!

I almost bought a Moda Halloween FQ pack until I realized that there were a lot of fabrics in the line that didn't really "go" with the overall theme, so I totally understand your disappointment. I would say that less than a quarter of the fabrics in that line had any relationship to the main theme. Maybe it was even that same line, since the one I was considering also had a lot of polka dots.

Well, just keep in it mind.

Thanks Dotty!!!!!!

It's always disappointing when you don't get what you thought you were suppose to get. What was the line and who did you order them from?

dotcomdtcm 08-14-2010 02:06 PM

One pack I think is Moda;the other 2 are Benartex. I will have to photo what I've done with them. It is good for a creative stretch. I made a table topper with the first 2 charm pks & now I'm doing a little wall piece with the other. I have some charms I got for Christmas, and I'll prob add some other fabric for a more satisfying design. Now, I know more.

When I'm thinking of purchasing a charm pack, layer cake, or jelly roll in a fabric line that I'm not familiar with, I always go Google it and look at the image results. Generally, there will usually be a pic showing the full line of fabrics in the collection so I can get a sense of what's below that top fabric in the package.

Great advice!!

Dotty....Do you use one 5 inch charm to make one of the cute pincushions you have in your avatar?

dotcomdtcm 09-05-2010 07:05 PM

No, but I could. Those are 6" circles for tomatoes & bias rectangles (a la Martha Stewart) for the gourds & pumpkins! This is how we grow vegetables in NYC!
