Carpenter Star fabric help

2 Attachment(s)
I've been wanting to use some of my Rose & Hubble fabric stash and decided to do a Carpenter's Star for today's project. Now I'm feeling like the 'green bean background' fabric might be too busy. I plan to put a double border on the star with a wide 2nd border of the fairy fabric that goes with this group - undecided on the other. I'd love to hear other's thoughts on the background - this is the least busy of the fabrics I have from this group. Should I just go with a light lavendar or something totally different? Thanks for any advise!

In the close-up it looks like the green is very close in value to the red and blue. I think more contrast in value would be better. These quilts are often done with white in the background, making a wonderful place for fancy quilting.

I agree that more contrast in value would be better. Either a dark or white/off white that reads as a solid would make the star pop.

I think white would look great. Sorry the green doesn't work. Can't wait to see the finished quilt.

Nodding in agreement with the others

I agree with everyone else re: contrast/value.

See how the orange/brown of your wooden table makes the colors adjacent to them stand out? You need a yellow/orange (according to the color wheel) to make this selection of colors stand out. Could be light in tone, or dark!

I agree that the wood tone really makes the star pop, but I think the white or off white or a navy blue would do the same thing. I'm looking forward to seeing what you pick and how it turns out.

You need a fabric that is more solid and with more contrast -- I love the colors but I think white or off white would work best.

Thanks everyone. I went in search of options today at my LQS as I could find nothing in my stash that fit the bill. My ideal would be a white with just a very slight tint of lavendar, but I tried it with some solids leaning toward the yellow too. It looked pretty good but I favor lavender or white over yellow in general... Still searching for 'just the fabric'. :)
