Cathedral Windows

I'm thinking about doing a Cathedral Windows quilt. Seems like a project to do slowly over a long time, making the "windows" when traveling in the motorhome or just watching tv in the evenings. Made some practice ones that look pretty good, but I'm wondering if using a background material (the folded pieces) with a little pattern would have more interest instead of the solid material I used for my practice windows. Any opinions?

If you go to Google Images and search on cathedral window quilt, there are several examples of using backgrounds with prints.

That could be very pretty, I'd think!

Sounds really pretty to me and you don't have to quilt it which is great!

That is a fun project to do. A printed background could be stunning!

I think the main reason people use the plain muslin is because you need so much of it. Depending on the width of the fabric it ranges from 9 to 24 yards. (Depending on how large you want your quilt to be.) I agree a patterned fabric would be stunning, it is amazing to me the white on white really makes other colors pop.

Mine is in progress using muslim..Now that I have worked out all the kinks, if I ever make another one I would probably use a print...I am using a print when I make my hickory nut pieces..It's all a matter of taste

I saw one once made with printed blue fabrics for the background and plain blue for middle. It was stunning!

I've been using a floral white on white background for mine and batik squares in the windows.

I think one of the "marbled" fabrics would look good. But it is more expensive than muslin.
