Chatter Quilts With Pictures

Okay, I should have done this in the first place. A friend gave me a gazillion of these little pieces, some are finished and some are ready to be stitched; but oh can I think of wonderful ways to use them. If you've heard of Chatter Quilts or know anything about them I'd sure love to know about that.

Okay, I think I have it now. Chatter = Conversation? Do you see how every little piece has a motif in it? These are what I call conversation prints. These were collected for charm quilts a while back where you used the same template shape for cutting out each piece but you were not supposed to have any fabric repeats in the whole quilt top. The reason conversation fabric pieces were popular were because you could remember if you already had that fabric unlike calicoes or patterns.

Interesting. First thing that went through my mind was that they looked like pieces for a "patchwork of the crosses" quilt.

However, that glimpse of the quilt off to the side makes me think Tartan is correct. :) What a neat idea!

Thanks for the info! It would make an interesting quilt!

Have never heard of a Chatter Quilt. Guess I will have to do a Google search and see what I can find.

Thank you so much! That makes so much sense and I love it! I have started to separate them into themes; flowers, nursery items, Christmas and have a ton of ideas of how to use them. The other nice thing about them is that they are portable and I can take them with me for doctor's office waits, airport waits and all those other times when you'd like to have something to keep your hands busy.

@ peckish, post #3: That is a beautiful block you showed. I'd say advanced! Wow!

I can't take the credit, it's not mine! If you google "patchwork of the crosses", then click "images", you will see all kinds of gorgeous blocks and quilts. Very tempting, but I need to work on my UFOs first!
