I found what I thought would make a fine stiletto at hobby lobby.:mrgreen: It is basically a sharp wire with a wood handle use for quilling with those narrow strips of paper. :lol: Only cost 2.95. Just thought some of you might like to know because all the other "stilettos" I have looked at were kind of pricey.

I find a little tool called an Awl very good ,better than the actual stiletto really.The one I have is put out by Clover , Wilma.

I use a bamboo scewer, if it doesn't get out of the way in time, my needle isn't broken. :wink:

I'm just wondering what you use these tools for? Sounds like it might be something to make my quilting life a little easier.

I, also, use a bamboo skewer for poking out corners and guiding the
fabric while sewing. :-)

Deb, I use mine for controlling the fabric as it goes under the needle. You know how you have it lined up just perfect and when the needle hits it, it slips or slides and gets off the mark just a bit, well with a stiletto which is pointed at one end, you can hold the fabric down at the point the needle hits it because the point on the stiletto is so small and sharp you can get it right up there with the needle and control it so the needle goes just where you want it. I hope this helps.

I use a nut pick as a stilletto. You know the ones that come with a metal nutcracker (usually there are 4 of them plus the nutcracker in a set). I use the pointy end as the stilletto and the other end is good to help close safety pins when pin basting. It's a "two-fer"-two jobs for one tool.

I too have checked out the price of stilettos and decided to "borrow" one of my hubbys old darts from his dart board. I found it works perfectly.
