Hello everyone, just wanted to check in. Don't know if anyone had realized I hadn't been or not but thought I would update. I think I am going to be a winter quilter, I packed my stuff all up the other day so I could have my living room back. Just haven't been in the mood to sew. In my free time I have my nose stuck in a book. I have read about 72 already this year. Anyway, update on the stepdad and chainsaw accident. He has healed completely with no problems just another conversation piece (his scar) on his knee. Everywhere we go he has to pull up the pants and show it off and tell the whole detailed story....lol. Anyway it only took about 2-3 weeks and you would have never known anything happened. He is a tough little devil! However, you know they say everything happens for a reason. Well seeing how I was monitoring his blood pressure and everything with the accident, I started noticing his blood pressure would be low even though he doctored for high. Followed up with doc and put him through the whole blood work thing and all. Well his kidney functioning was down. It seemed to be only working about a third of normal. They took him off some of the diurectics and retested and it came up some. They then sent him for a scan of the kidney and found he has some blockage in the vessels that go into the kidney. We are waiting for them to tell us when, but they want to put stints or balloons in to open them up and get the blood flowing back in. They said it should improve the functioning but at worst case it should help prevent him from having to have dialysis or something of that sort later down the road. I guess it should keep from decreasing the function any further.....If he wouldn't have cut his leg I wouldn't have been watching him as close and may not have found this out before it was a big problem. They say where he was on the several diurectics for a couple of years didn't probably help. They can dry up your kidneys fast. Anyway he is still on the go constantly and isn't sick, just tires easier. As a matter of fact I allowed him....lol to use the chainsaw again to cut down a few small tree limbs under my supervision....lol. He was like a little child with a reward.
Along with other things, I have been busy getting son ready for school. It started Monday. He is a big freshman. He is my only child and man is it depressing to think of where the years have went. He really likes it and has turned over a new leaf of wanting to learn and do good in school. I am excited about that. He has always done good in school but just only wanted to do what was necessary and didn't always do things I knew he was capable of doing.
Enough boring everyone, I still get on and read all the posts as regular as I can. Hopefully with all this fabric I have I will get bit by the quilting bug again soon.....lol.

Aww nuts toni I was wondering where you've been. Glad to hear your stepdad is doing so much better and great news that you caught his blood pressure! Sorry things have gotten in the way lately and stifled the quilting bug for you but I think it happens to most of us. Keep checking in and telling us how you are doing and I'm quite sure you'll be bit by that darn quilting bug good and hard soon!!

Hi Toni, I have been missing you. Glad your stepdad is mended and that his kidney problems were detected early. You're such a good daughter, mom, wife. I know what you mean about the quilting. I have weeks where that's all I do, and then weeks that I don't sew at all. I would sew less if it was scattered all over the place or in the way. I'm kindof a neat freak, even in my sewing room.

Glad everything seems to have happened for a reason. Just keep a close eye on him when he's using the chain saw, probably keeps him young, just being busy.

Glad to hear from you and well even though things haven't been well but okay ....glad your all right....sometimes we forget to look out for ourselves and end up down too so don't forget to check yourself.....okay.....sounds like you have something goin on too.....don't want to quilt....well I never....:-)

Glad the boy is into school this year ...We had one son as well but he truly was a book worm....don't know where he got it from....just glad for it....Maybe by seeing you reading so much and how you enjoyed it has helped...good luck...stay in touch....

Glad Dad's leg has healed up so well & that his kidney problems were caught early.
Good on your son!! That's so great that he is INTERESTED in school this year! Woooooooohoooooooo!!!!
Be sure to take care of yourself too, OK? I think you should go pull out at least one fat quarter to fondle while you're reading....keep in touch, so to speak!

Thanks for checking in Toni. I am so glad your step dad is healing so fast. Keep checking in even if you don't feel like sewing.

We may be quilting friends.........but "FRIENDS" is the important part.

Good to hear from you, Toni! I get spells where all I want to do is read! Don't worry, the bug will hit again. I know lots of us sew in spurts, including me. Somedays you'd have to threaten me with a big stick just to get me in the spare bedroom, other days, look out!, don't get in my way, I'm going to go sew! Glad to hear that your son is doing well. My grandson is home schooled, and I really wish my daughter would send him to school. He needs to be with other kids and adults--he's been spoiled by his mom and now he can be kind of a big brat sometimes. I guess I just need to pray that one day my daughter will see that real school is a good thing for him.
Your father in law sounds like a real gem. Give him a big hig from me and we will hope that his kidneys don't get any worse.

Toni, I am glad everything is ok and that you are just taking a break. Glad step Dad is behaving and getting needed medical help. I haven't done much sewing this summer either - too much company to entertain. Had kids and adults here from June 17th - last to go home this Saturday!!!!! Free at last soon. Take care!

Hi Toni.. yes we have missed you very much!! So glad to hear your Step Dad is doing well and back at the chainsaw again (well supervised that is :) ) He sounds like a real trooper and won't let anything get him down.

You will have the quilting bug again I know! Especially will all your fabric around you to get you inspired :)

Hugs to you!

Hey Toni, Long time no see girl. So glad to hear step dad is doing good.

Marcia 08-27-2008 10:06 AM

Toni-so glad to hear your stepfather is doing well. Hope they get his kidneys fixed right up too. Read all you can, life is short and there are a lot of good books out there. The quilting bug will bite you again. You can't stay away too long! Stay in touch.

It's hard to imagine your children being in high school. I was okay until driver's ed...then it hit me! I'm glad he likes school.

We have had so much rain, even though it's still 70 and muggy outside, I have been making soup...I think we are ready for fall. I'm making some chilli for tomorrow night :D

Your fil is lucky you took such good care of him. I hope he does well with whichever way they proceed.

welcome back.

Hi Toni, been missing you here but glad to hear all things seem to be getting back to "normal".

Things do happen for a reason..so I'm glad that is all seeming to work out for the best.

We'll be seeing you quilting again sometime soon..that fabric will be calling your name. If not...then still stay in touch!!

Toni,
It was good to hear from you. Yes, I noticed you hadn't been on the Board. I have been thinking about you and wondering about your Step-Daddy. My Papaw ran a chainsaw all of his life. He was in his 70s and would get up in the middle of the night and fire that chainsaw up! My Mamaw and Papaw lived up on a mountain with no running water or indoor plumbing. My Mamaw had a lot of health problems and had strokes that left her in a wheelchair and with the use of only one arm. They had 11 kids, so some of the kids took turns with them. Some of the kids went in on a brand new trailer for them, and it was put in beside of my parents' so my Mom could help take care of them both (and others came in as much as they could, but Mom didn't work outside the home, and it was beside of her...). So, one night my Mamaw is lying in bed, in a different place than she's used to, and she can't see outside because there is no light out there. It was probably 3 am... Well, Papaw got up and fired up the chainsaw and cut a hole all the way through their bedroom wall so he could run one of those trouble lights (you know those kind on the orange extension cord that has the "cage" around the bulb?!) through the hole for an outside light!!!!!
He had a porch cobbled onto the entire length of the trailer. It consisted of about 4 rooms that you walked through one room to get to another. They all had doors on them. He nailed it right to the new trailer and painted it bright green! And he did it all with his chainsaw! I liked it. It gave me a lot of space to play!

I'm glad you noticed your Step-Dad's blood pressure and that the kidney problem was caught earlier.
