Hi!
I've read the threads regarding using batting in the mock cathedral window made with the circle magic template.

I watched a video @ MSQ using no batting, and another video on youtube using medium weight fusible interfacing. I like the idea of using flannel suggested on one of threads here.

If anyone has made it with the flannel batting have you had problems with the flannel moving? The fusible interfacing would lock it down preventing movement/poofiness (technical term) puckers/uneven surface of the finished circle that I'm wondering might happen with using flannel as batting.

Thanks for suggestions...I know I should just try making a sample but thought I would ask for opinions, just the same.

why not try the flannel on a test 'square'. I'm not sure i'd use flannel on mine; I'd probably opt for the lightweight fusible.

Ok, why would you want to eliminate the poufiness? That is part of the charm of the cathedral window.

I'm going to make a run out and buy some fusible interfacing and yes, indeed try a test...Thanks for your suggestion...

I agree consistency was my concern if consistently poofy but I'm concerned that the flannel will not behave and stay in place .... I guess I just need to make those test pieces and see. I was just wanting to hear from other quilters of their experiences using a flannel batting with this block. Thanks bunches for taking time to reply...I just really appreciate this board and all I learn...

I tried with and without batting. Batting made it to stiff for me and harder to get nice points to meet. I liked the without. My choice though!

I would not use flannel. Maybe a light weight batting if you really want to go that way. This is a heavy quilt without batting so consider that too. there are four layers of fabric, right?

I've made 2 of the Faux Cathedral Windows and both had little scraps of cotton batting. The first used my husbands dress shirts as the windows and the second used left over flannel bits for the windows. I like it a little poofy. I would even consider folding larger flannel squares into a small window rather than make it without batting.
