I have started doing some much much needed thorough cleaning & tossing. We want to put our house on the market soon, so I am trying to get through accumulations of stuff that have had no real home.
In this process I have discovered many little tiny things misplaced. I started putting them in small plastic containers. I have several different ones. I had emptied a plastic basket. My brain was working. A light went on. I put all my cups with tiny things in the basket. Now instead of moving six or so little containers, I can take them with me from area to area. You know the little stuff like buttons, safety pins, hair clips, paper clips, marbles, etc. How does that stuff get so all over?
Hope this helps you in your organizing. Believe it or not but my sewing room is the most organized room in the house even tho it is messy, cause I keep at it. In order to clean I have set myself a schedule 2 hrs. minium cleaning before I even look at my sewing-quilting.

Clever....I am trying to do a bit each day...we are thinking of moving too and frankly the sheer volume our rambling old home contains is mind-blowing. I tuned into Hoarders last night and after I watch it - I get into sort and toss mode!

I need to clean the house also. I like your idea of cleaning for 2 hrs. before your sew/quilt.

I am moving my sewing item in the my new sewing room. I love the ideal of cleaning two hours before quilting. If I get to that point. My office is a mess the sewing room not as so bad :-(

The last time we moved I tossed everything that hadn't been used in a year (except my stash and DH's hobby stuff). Pots, pans, china that was pretty but never used, clothes, coats, shoes, books, small appliances, just general stuff that I haven't replaced or missed at all. I love opening a closet or cabinet and seeing an empty top shelf. I'm not sentimental so that helps with having no clutter. I have one small box for each child with keepsake items that I like to look at now and then. Nothing else is worth the nag of having stuff piled into every empty spot.
