The talk of using the sidewinder someone mentioned they used neutral thread on their bobbin. Do you have to use the color of your top thread, which I try to match as best as I can even with multi colors? Can a tan, white, black be used instead? Then I can see the use of getting several bobbins ready ahead.

When piecing, I use neutral for both top and bottom. For quilting I like for them to match so any little tension problems will be less noticeable.

I match the top color but use a neutral on the bottom--white on white muslin and beige on the natural muslin. Lots of colors on top? Varigated to match as best I can.

I generally use beige or gray unless I just happen to have some red or blue or green on a bobbin and slip it in place. Bobbin thread is hidden (unless the background is white/off-white) so I use up what I have.

I use neutral in top and bobbin.

For piecing I almost always use white thread

I try to match the background color so it will more or less blend in with a small, tight zig zag stitch. Seems to do that nicely. I catch the applique with one stitch and let the other one go a thread outside it. It's already ironed to the back block with the iron-on fabric, but these will be washed often so want them to stay on for years.
Sometimes I want a black outline on strange, "artistic" and odd multi straight shapes and sharp color contrasts. Okay, I so I like odd things, doesn't take much to amuse a childish mind. And it uses up all sorts of scraps!! Think Picasso draws a bunch of quilting templates.

pieceing is always white on white thread. White hand stiching thread, unless Im feeling fiesty, then will go with a color match. Its rare but it happens. ew ew ew catch me if can, Im stichin in blue.....!!!
