I'm making a jacket with Moda Jelly Roll strips (unwashed) sewed to Thermore batting then embellished with decorative stitches and free motion. I selected a dark fabric and added some paper piecing for the lining and washed it to prevent the colors from running.
The jacket is reversible with the two layers joined and finished with bias binding.
Now I am concerned that they will shrink at different rates. I would just have to commit hari-kari if that happens as I really put a lot of work into it. What do the seamstress' here think?

Sounds like it will be pretty. If it's quilted, most people expect a little "texture" - so you probably don't need to worry.

The more quilting done, the less problem there should be :D:D:D

I hadn't planned on quilting the two layers together. I hoped to just slip the lining inside of the jacket and then join together at the edges with binding.
Guess if the consensus is that they need to be anchored together, I would probably have to quilt them together before I put the front, back and sleeves together and then the seams would have to be bound on each side.
The pattern doesn't address how it goes together so I'm afraid of making a big mistake.
I am losing patience and would just like to have it finished in this lifetime!!!

I know this seems like a pain right now, but I WOULD NOT risk putting this together without some substantial quilting on it. When wahed, it could shrink at different rates and ruin your jacket.

I agree. You need to quilt it. It will be better in the long fun.

You washed the lining? But not the pieced outer jacket part? then wash the outer layer!
You only have to worry about puckering if you pieced washed to unwashed.

you can still slip your lining inside the outter jacket like you planned, line up sleeves, edges. and just do some quilting before adding the binding around the edges. some straight stitching in the ditch here and there should be sufficient. check the package of batting you are using and see how close it should be quilted and follow that guideline then bind as planned. wash it gently in cold water for the first time...dry on low heat. press it and it will be beautiful!
i did this once...and one side was homespuns/flannels...i was really in a panic...but it turned out just fine, i had no problem with noticable distortion or shrinking unevenly. and i did not do a heavy quilting...i just followed the batting requirements (mine was quilt every 4") but different batts require different distances, so check yours.
it will turn out just fine...

When making clothing of any kind with cotton, I always prewash before.
