Cookie Cutters and Quilts

Have you every thought of using cookie cutters to make appliques or as quilting designs for your quilts. I was just wondering it would work.

I have thought about doing that & I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I have traced around biggish ones to use as appliques. I trace them onto the fusible, fuse to the WS of the fabric then cut them out. Then peel the paper off and fuse to fabric, kids t-shirts, etc.

Yes I have used cookie cutters and childrens coloring books for designs to applique and quilt. It works fine.

there are actually applique shapes called -cookie cutter shapes-
my great grandmother (who passed away 50 years ago) used them for appliques all the time- another great source for applique shapes are coloring books- and many childrens toys.
if it is trace-able- it is usable :)

and the best source for children's coloring books that have usable designs is the thrift store, used book stores, Goodwill and Salvation Army stores and yard sales. They just don't print children's coloring books with designs like they did in the olden days (that is 25 or so years ago).

Yes they make great templates.

I have used them. They did the job!

I have around 25 cookie cutters bought for quilt marking, I don't bake anything.

Now that I rarely doing my own quilting am thinking about getting rid of them.

Never thought about cookies cutters and imagine they will work great. I had another great idea for templates. At WalMart they have plastic templates for scrapbooking. I am going to buy a package @$7.99. One plate has several patterns and the ends have curves for edges.
