Could use some help for darling grandchildren

In May I am going to visit the grandchildren (Charlotte 7, and Alex 4) for a week. As it stands now, they will both be in school, so I thought, why not spend my time making them some wonderful quilt thing? Any suggestions as to what might be an easy project that I could finish in a week (2 colorways). I am a slow quilter, so maybe I could get a head start on the projects at home before I travel. I just want them to know that Grandma made these for them. Any great ideas? Thanks, Connie

Simple lap quilts, doing the binding while you are visiting? or quilted pillowcases for TV time?

Or making a pillowcase or two and they could help you with them. You could cut them all out and have them ready to go. To make it even more memorable the pillowcases could be done in child fabrics and donated to http://conkerrcancer.org/help.html A lasting memory for all of you.

Have you considered a quillow? I haven't made one but have seen them and think they are great.

T-Anne, what a nice idea. I checked the website, and there is a drop-off store in Raleigh, where I am going. Thanks for a great idea!

Can anyone direct me to some directions for making a quillow? Thanks, Connie

I think they are the perfect age for an I Spy quilt. If you go into your LQS and get 1/4 yard of several cute fabrics, you could do 2 similar quilt tops. Maybe you have some fat quarters in your stash that will work? You could get the story book fabric and do them each a quilt that they could read every night. The pillowcases are a super idea too and easy to make and take. Another cute idea would be a Bug Jar quilt for Alex and a Candy Jar quilt for Charlotte.

I have made a few car tag alongs. They are crayon and notebook/coloring book holders for the car. I can post a pic of the two I have on my car. They are great because the kids stuff is contained and hanging on the back of the seat in front of them. I made one in about 2 hours. Cutting included. And the best part is you only need about 2-3 fqs and some stableizer and a bit of ribbon.

Don't know what an I Spy quilt is, or a Bug Jar or a Candy Jar is. Would appreciate a little more guidance. Thanks.
