I was thinking about making a crazy quilt but I can't decide if I want to just sew it and go or paper piece it. How do you do yours?

To me a crazy quilt by definition is about randomness, and not following a pattern or a PP technique. Although I know there are PP patterns to do so.

Of course, there's no quilt police ... do what works best for you!

you can do both if you want. just get a piece of paper and sew fabric to it like you would with pping but without the lines on the back side. and there you go randomness in a ordered block. hehe.

I just cut all my foundation blocks the same size - and then - started pulling fabric out of my scrap bin. Making sure I ended up covering the entire foundation -

Then I trimmed to size - embroidered all the seams and VOILA!

It was fun and fast. I think the best part was - I didn't have to think about evenness, or matching points etc....

I use "used" dryer sheets for my foundation. Then I don't remove them. It's part of the quilt:)

I'm a crazy quilter and think part of the beauty is the randomness. If you do a search online you'll find lots of tutorials. I use muslin for the foundation. That being said, there really are no rules. So, if you like the paper-piecing, no problem. (PS..They are great books on the subject, probably at your local library...)

Crazy Quilts are fun and relaxing. There are so many ways to create a block...try out different methods and see what you prefer. They will all work together in the end.

I have bought the deli type paper from costco and used that as the base for crazy squares. I haven't done enough to put them together in a quilt yet, but it's fun to sit and rip out a few rectangular squares every now and then. The paper is really cheap and it also works well to cover stuff in the nuke!
