Has anyone made a design board/wall using a roll down window shade? I saw something like this at a quilt show once but couldn't afford to buy it. It was made of some kind of roll down window shade with flannel on it. The blocks are suppose to stick to it when one rolls it up for storage. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has made one of these. Thanks, Diane in California

Hello and Welcome to the board :D:D:D

We were discussing this in the chat room a while back. Looking at the ready made ones, we discovered that they used a more heavy duty shade to start with. It seems the springs and hardware are beefed up to help hold the extra weight of the batting and blocks/fabric :D:D:D

There are many permanent spray adhesive fabric friendly glues on the market that can be used to attach the flannel to the shades :D:D:D

I've been considering doing this with a blind from IKEA that has a side cord that lets you roll and unroll the blind without relying just on a spring. They are available in different widths. They show them on their web site, but you have to actually go to a store to get it.

Here's mine. I used fusible webbing to attach mine.

Did you use a regular roll up shade? What did you use to attach the flannel?

For mine, regular shade, ironed flannel on with wonder under or something like it. Hubby made cover from an $8.00 piece of fake crown molding. Shade brackets are mounted on small pieces of wood to allow for extra clearance from the wall.
