someone gave me printed yardage. the fabric is white. it has blue lines forming boxes to represent blocks. within the 'blocks' are cross-stitch and line combination drawings, also printed in blue. the drawings are flowers, and the cross-stitch parts are larger than i would normally like. that is, the x's are large.
in addition, the fabric itself is not the greatest. it is a loose weave, content unknown. i think part poly. i believe it was made to be embroidered and put together to make a quilt. there are not enough and i don't know if it would hold up. i would have to back each block with white and hope all the blue got covered by embroidery because it doesn't wash out. i would also have to alternate with solid colors to coordinate with these too-few blocks to stretch it out. i think it came from a catalog named herschner's or herchner's.

you know, as i talk about it, i wonder if it's even worth it. any opinions out there? i know you have them.

From your description....I wouldn't touch it for a quilt. Now to make something else...maybe. A quilt would end up being too expensive to risk using that fabric with it. Just MHO...

Sounds to me like typical preprinted embroidery blocks. Here are some of my mother's blocks that I made into quilts.

I don't think I'd even try to cross stitch that baby -- I'd go crazier trying to cover up all that blue....

I have to agree...
I wouldn't touch it, but since I don't cross stitch...

your looks like much better quality than mine. and the embroidery is great!

butterflywing 01-18-2009 06:47 PM

sounds like.....okay - out it goes!

I'm a cross-stitcher, so I'd probably go forward with it and use the finished product as a wall hanging. I'd do the embroidery, put the feather weight iron on stabilizer on the back and call it a day.

Great. Thanks, I am currently working on a quilt for my grandaughter using the same kind of thing. What kind of quilting do you like to do. I just finished a peek a boo one that i saw done on Fons and Porter. It was fun to do. It looks sort of like a cathedral one but a little different. I used all my scraps so it is very colorful. My husband grabbed it and has been using it and said it is very warm. I have a lot of circles cut for the next one and it is all native american fabrics and will also be very colorful. That one is for me. LOL I am native american and just love the fabrics they have out right now. Let me know as soon as you can how much then I will send the money out right away. Also need your address LOL
Thanks Jane

i am currently working on a project for my sister that doesn't want to get done. it is a (will be) wallhanging, app. 48 x 64. named "sister's choice". it will be a big surprise for her, and, if i ever finish, it will be a surprise for me, too. it is just one of those projects that doesn't want to get done! but i have decided not to start anything else until then.

i'll get back to you soon.

I think tht it would be gorgous when it would be done. My grandmother made those all the time. it would be something to do and relaxing. The blue does wash out.

butterflywing 01-21-2009 10:34 PM

mine has no blue.. it has maroon, olive green, forest green, washed-out looking maroonish and gold.

if you want to see it, go to 'what are you working on next?'. i think that's what the thread was called. last i looked, it was on the first page, only pic.
looks better than it sounds.

i don't know how to create a link to the page. anyone out there to help me?

snorwood 01-24-2009 02:59 PM

It sounds like the pre printed for embroidery/cross stitch, when washed the blue disappears, then you assemble. or make into small pillow covers etc.

retiredbriar 01-25-2009 09:57 AM

I love to embroider those pre-stamped quilt squares! I have 3 different squares started right now. I have one top already finished ready to quilt. I got my squares from J. D. Needleart and they have much more variety than Herschner's.
I believe the blue markings should wash out - at least they do on the JDNeedleart squares. I have some friends who have made quilts out of these squares and they are absolutely beautiful! If there are any questions I can answer I will be glad to try.

I've seen these blocks made into a quilt, but the blocks were off white. They used a varigated deep red/burgandy for the roses and a varigated deep green for the stems and leaves. The rich colors on the off white was very pretty when finished.

butterflywing 01-29-2009 09:52 AM

thanks, all, for the info. i thought that the blue was there forever. no matter, i didn't really want to do it. it found a good home in florida with someone who will enjoy making it. i hope we see pics when it's done.
