The neighbor down the street had a yard sale for the last two days. He said what he didn't sell was going in the garbage.
Here are the five things my dil went down and pulled from the curb.
I haven't cleaned them up yet, don't even know if they will run.

Syl

Commander Singer. It has the origional book that came with it. It says Quilting Machine.

momcpo 04-23-2011 03:32 PM

One man's trash.......

BETTY62 04-23-2011 03:32 PM

Be careful as it appears you may have a nut for a neighbor. For those not to sell, he must have had them really over priced. You DIL did good.

mymsmess 04-23-2011 03:32 PM

WOW!!!!! Even if they don't, which I hope they do, you could still find a use for the part's! You lucky girl!

quiltpd 04-23-2011 03:49 PM

Wow - great finds. Glad your husband rescued them for you.

quilter1943 04-23-2011 03:52 PM

My gosh! Not sure where you live in Florida, but all I find at yard sales around here is beat up old "silk" Walmart flowers. Fantastic. Looks like attachments even for one of them.

np3 04-23-2011 04:02 PM

Even if he had them priced really high it seems like he would have lowered the prices later in the day. I can't believe someone didn't make him an offer!!!!

bjnicholson 04-23-2011 04:04 PM

Holy Cow! Did you every score the big one!!!!

CarolLady 04-23-2011 05:22 PM

Oh me. I have the Singer 401A. Was my first wedding anniversary gift from my husband in 1957. Mine has been a work horse for all these years. Can't imagine someone leaving that on the curb...........Lucky you. I am proud for you........

Happy Quilting........

gzuslivz 04-23-2011 05:25 PM

My mom has been sewing on a 401A since the 60's. It's a great machine!

Candace 04-23-2011 05:34 PM

I can't believe he didn't sell those! I wonder what actually did get sold if these were his 'garbage'!!!!

asmmauer 04-23-2011 05:43 PM

Lucky you I hope they all run. Have fun with your new toys.

Beaglemom59 04-23-2011 05:49 PM

JoyjoyMarie 04-24-2011 02:49 AM

I can't believe the things people put in the trash. There are so many recycle stores for this stuff. Lucky you - hope you can use them. or whatever.

WOW, lucky you!

Krystyna 04-24-2011 03:26 AM

pocoellie 04-24-2011 03:39 AM

Great looking machines, I'm glad your dil picked them up, that would have been a real shame to have them in the trash truck.

laalaaquilter 04-24-2011 03:45 AM

OMG!! Did the sewwer pass away and he was dumping assets? Hope you rescued her stash as well.

dinlauren 04-24-2011 04:10 AM

You really lucked out!!! Must have been karma that you got them. Congratulations.........I'm hoping they all work too.......wouldn't that be super....lol

tmg 04-24-2011 04:14 AM

Some people just don't know what they have. Good for you saving them from the trash.

msmariab5 04-24-2011 04:17 AM

Great find!!! Enjoy

Surfergirl 04-24-2011 05:48 AM

I live in Florida and haven't had any luck finding vintage machines at yard sales. I've been looking for a 500 or 503 Rocketeer for quite a while now with no luck. You're very lucky and I'm sure you can get these machines up and running.

k9dancer 04-24-2011 06:06 AM

I'd love the 401.

MarieM 04-24-2011 06:34 AM

I'd love to have the older machines. They are work horses.

khlrkat 04-24-2011 07:10 AM

Wow! hope they work for you

purplefiend 04-24-2011 07:57 AM

wow amazing what people throw out. The Tiny Tailor is one of the worst machines ever made, the other 4 are good machines. Make sure that that 503 has the 0 cam or it won't do anything but straight stitch.

alapetitechaise 04-24-2011 07:57 AM

Sometimes you can get original manuals for them emailed from the company. I just got one for an older Viking emailed to me. They scanned the old manual into their data base and can send out to anyone who needs it. Love technology! Kudos to your DH.. A great find!

pawebdoctor 04-24-2011 08:30 AM

WOW, WOW, WOW!!!
TERRIFIC!!! THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!

Maire 04-24-2011 08:53 AM

I don't know about all of them but I know the Singer 500 & 401 are considered among the best & sought after by collectors. I have a 500 I love, hopefully with a little cleaning oil & lube you can get them working.
