I've been doing the Stack and Whack quilt and for the most part, my pieces go together pretty well, but I have had some issues with wavy pieces (which will not be part of the quilt, good thing I had extra fabric!).

Anyway, should I use sizing spray before I cut the triangles? Any advice appreciated! (Sorry, still very much a newbie, been at this for about 3+ weeks now) And now, I'm about to work on the solid triangles now, to join with what I've already made.

I have never used anything on mine, but I just try to hold them very gently when they are about to go under the needle. I know what you mean about them sometimes getting wavy. That has happened to me too. I have been quilting since 1992 and sometimes I still feel like a beginner.

yes, starch will help. If you still have problems think about using your walking foot while you are piecing. It will help feed both pieces of fabric through at the same time and it reduces stretching.

a good, heavy dose of starch makes all the difference when you're working in the bias.

you can use a walking foot. it may be difficult to get an exact seam allowance. seam allowance can be marked on the bed of your machine with painters tape.

Thanks everyone. I'll start with the starch, since I'm very fond of my 1/4 inch foot with that nice rail that my eye is so used to watching.

If I'm still unhappy, I'll try the walking foot. I do know that it seems that the 2 pieces want to slide apart when I'm just about at the end of the seam. Grr.

I put a piece of tissue paper under my pieces when I sew - very easy to remove after sewing.

I'm open to all suggestions but how does this help? Isn't tissue paper slippery?

I use my purple thang or a bamboo skewer to hold the ends together until the very last stitch has to go in.
