So I'm making a 25 block sampler, each block with special meaning. I've been organizing and reorganizing the patterns, coloring them with pencils to make sure I have it all together before I start to cut. I love this baton rouge block from quilter's cache. I saw the link to make blocks bigger or smaller, but don't have the graph paper to figure stuff out. Can someone help make the pattern for this link a 12" block instead of 10? All the other ones picked are 12" blocks.

I wish I could help you, but my brain won't go there. Does EQ have the ability to do that? I would have to do the math and I am not up for that. Lovely block, BTW.

I think each section of that block (5x5) would have to finish up 2.4" (originally 2"). So if you had 1/4" seams, you'd have to cut the square pieces to 2.9". If I were making it, I think I'd try making a sample by cutting 3", sew a little bigger than 1/4" seams. You also have to take into consideration the triangles. Another option is to enlarge it 120% and cut templates out of paper (don't forget to add seam allowance). Clear as mud??? LOL

That was fun! So I got out my EQ6, set up a 12" block split into five rows each way (that's a grid with 60 points).

The easiest way to make it a 12" block is to add a 1" border to the block.

For anyone without EQ, this block tells how to enlarge blocks. Scroll to the January1, 2010 entry. After I read it a couple of times, it seems doable.

Wow...I think I just fell in love with EQ6. Your computer did that?
I couldn't download the program. I could look at the templates and the rotary cutting ones. The rotary cutting one....there's a 3 1/4 " piece and a 2 7/8". Are those strips as long as the WOF? Also, if they are, am I then cutting them down to 3 1/4 and 2 7/8" squares? I probably would then be cutting them on the diagonal for the HST. Am I understanding all that correctly? If that's true, I'm not sure that's more difficult that some of the other cutting instructions for the rest of the blocks. In fact, many of the other blocks involve 2 7/8" squares. |
