couldn't find the other thread about it

I think this is interesting:

On page 61 of the Dear Jane book:

"The Quilt holds many surprises. In trying to draft the patterns, I kept wondering why some of the blocks looked larger than others, like K-1 and K-2. I now know the truth: your blocks, my dear lady, vary in size from three to five inches" You are certainly a trickster! Did the sizeof youyr block depend upon the amount fabric you had? (I dare not deviate from the 4 1/2" format for Baby Janes. I don't believe today's quilters would be willing to deal with so many sizes.}"

I thought the blocks looked like they were different sized in the picture of the quilt.

How many of you were aware that the blocks in the original quilt were of different sizes and that Jane used sashing to "make them work."

That's pretty interesting. I did not know that. They all look the same size.

yes but most people just use the 4.5 size on all blocks. if you have the software you can make the blocks whatever size you like.

i've seen jane sampler quilts with 12 inch blocks.

I knew it only because, like you, I read the book. I'm interested in the history of Dear Jane, as well as, the quilt itself. Jane Stickle made her amazing quilt without the fancy tools and notions we use today. I think some of the people on the other thread didn't like the book and instead wanted precise patterns to follow, but once they start making the Dear Jane blocks, I'm sure they will find the book very useful.

Have you made any blocks, yet? I'm finished with Row A and the first couple blocks in Row B. I'm trying to make my blocks as much like Jane's as I can, except for the size. Mine are all going to be 4 1/2" finished.

I was looking at them.

In some cases, I think I will redraft them to look more like the pictures- and to fit the 4.5 inch format.

Did they have graph paper way back then?

She might have done some of her designing by folding squares of paper.

I'm up to page 65 in the book. Most of the straight-line blocks look pretty manageable (so far, anyway).

Redrawing them does give clues to me on how they might be assembled.

I'm redrafting some of mine to look more like the original blocks. The book really helps with that. I find that I use the book more than the software, but I wouldn't want to give up either one. :D

Have you started any blocks, yet?

I would love to see some of the blocks you all have finished!

I don't know how to send pictures, but I'll get my daughter to post pictures of my blocks.

Thank you Minda!

Do you think the software is worth the $50?
