Dear Quilt,
I pulled you out last night from the darkness of the closet, where you had been tossed in a shame I wanted to forget I saw not your clumsy stitches or your badly cut block, I saw the pieces of my life in you, an eternal clock I looked not at your crooked borders, or at your imperfect seams, but at the green strips that I put on you Angry,When I wanted to just scream I remember the day that I cried over and over again, and my tears mingled with your stitches Like so many grains of sand. I remember working on you on that night spent in doubt, while waiting, waiting, waiting to see how it would all turn out. The day I lost it all dear quilt, you saw that too yet you said nothing just comforted me through You were there, again, dear quilt through those long days of fears my shaking hands calmed, your fabric catching my tears You weren't only a comfort but always there when everything was wonderful and all I could do was grin You brought out my sense of humor too, dear quilt, you did how could I not laugh when I sewed you to that lid? In your corners and crevassses I can finally now see the joys and the sadness that you lived along with me The threads of our life intertwined As I worked the parts of you You are a part of me, dear quilt As I am a part of you So,no longer, dear quilt will you be hidden away, You will wear your mistakes proudly even out on display I will look at you and remember all those long gone days for your imperfections are mine dear quilt, and finally, thats ok. Thank you, everyone.
I don't know why I wrote that, it just happened. I was sitting at my sewing table, scribbling on some graph paper and it just came out! |
What a wonderful poem. Thanks.

Submit it to a quilting magazine! (Still sniffing)

My goodness was there something in the air yesterday. How odd is it that 2 quilters would suddenly write beautiful poems and post them on the same day.
