I am starting to gather ideas for making some lap quilts from Denim. Our youngest daughter's husband took his life last May 6. She wants lap quilts made for her and their 3 girls.
I have made a denim comforter several years ago, and know it is "the pits" to machine sew. I ended up sewing with a heavy needle the seams on the top of the quilt. Then I tied it , and put a border around the edge.
This is as far as I have gotten: make a large 9-patch or 4 patch; something simple but eye-catching, for a center block, probably of Red and maybe Gold; not sure of the latter.
Then, I am stumped as to what to do next. I did tell her the 1st would be an "experiment," then the others pretty much a copy of hers.
Any suggestions are appreciated. The girls are 8,3,14 months.
Mariah.

I have no ideas for you. I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for your daughter's loss, granddaughter's loss and yours. How horrible for all of you. <<<hugs>>>

I am so sorry to hear of your family's loss. I have used demin and shirts in combanation to make rag quilts. These were "memory quilts" for a friends sons using her late husbands clothing. I backed the blocks with flannel. The shirt blocks were sandwiched with quilt batting to match the weight of the demin blocks. Hope this helps.

When my dad died I made denim rag quilts for my sisters, brother & myself out of his jeans. I used denim on one side & flannel on the other. Easy to do, cozy & a nice reminder of my dad. So sorry for you family's loss. Making the quilts was very comforting to me.

I made this pattern with chenille and used batting. I have tons of denim circles cut in anticipation of some day making a quilt with them. I would not add any batting and I am going to use flannel or homespun for the center. This is a quilt as you go and easier than making seams.
