I want to add a design wall to my studio. What are you all using? I don't want something that looks thrown together. I am in love with my room as it is, it needs to blend in. It will go on this wall. Any input would be appreciated. thanks

Mine is just flannel tacked to the wall.

I've heard some using flannel, foam board backing with flannel cover.
Looking to learn what others are using also. We'll learn together.

What I have done is.... I have a thumb tack holding in the corners of the back of a vinyl table cloth... I no cheesy but .. I went to IKEA and bought there wire system to hang curtains on .. it has pink hooks that you clip to the curtains... well I clip it to my quilt tops and I have that up there also so I have quilt tops I can pull in front of the design wall and change it tops as I feel like. So different looks until the top gets quilted.. then push them aside when I need the design wall.

Google quilt design walls and there are many to choose from. We just bought pink foam board from Home Depot - 3 pieces - 2'x8', so wall will be 6' x 8'. DH is going to frame it with 2'x'2 trim. That is as far as our thinking has taken us. Probably will cover it with either flannel or batting. I have a large space to cover, so hopefully it will work out.

I have 2 of them one extra LRG made from 2 plastic cardboard
sheets 4'X 6' 6" edged on backside with 1"x 2" trim and hinged together, both sheets are covered with a very thick white flannel.It opens up to be 8' x 6' 6" My small one is 32" x 36" plastic cardboard covered with thick white flannel WORKS GREAT

I just have a very LARGE piece of flannel thumb-tacked to the wall. It works great for me.

You are so lucky to have such a nice wall for your design wall. I completely understand about wanting it to look nice.

I took a piece of the pink insulation board from Menards and covered it (use duck tape on the back so it doesn't show) with flannel. Then you can either attach this to the wall or lean it against the wall.

I got a piece of "foamular" from Home Depot which is a pink styrofoam insulation board the size of drywall sheets. I've found it in 2 different thicknesses (about 1 & 2 inch). I covered it with muslin (to cover the color) then a piece of felt. I pinned the fabrics all around the back edge. Mine are about 4x5 feet and I move them around the room but if you had a free wall you could mount it to the wall. It works great. The fabric sticks to the felt and I also use pins to pin up freezer paper templates.

My Wall is a foam core board you buy at home depot for about $6 it is about 4x5, then we cover it with white batting, it is really light. It looks great and you can pin to it as well as you pieces will just stick. I actually have two. We attached them to the wall with the 3M hangers that do not make holes in the wall.

My wall is a frame made from timber, I think about 1" x 1" with cross pieces on the corners to strengthen it. I stretched flannel over the frame and staple gunned to the back. It hangs up on the wall on two L shaped hooks. Blocks and smaller pieces stick to it great with no help and because there's a small void behind it, I can pin through it if I want to hang something heavy like a top. My sewing room is so small, I also use it to hold FQs for the current project - just toss them up there, keeps them nice and flat and out of the way! :-D

The quilt you have on the frame in the picture. Where did you get the asian lady fabric. It is gorgeous.

I bought the Asian lady as a panel/kit at a quilt show. The quilt is put together using the book Nine Patch Pizzaz.

I made my own design wall. I went to Home Depot and purchased 2 4'x8' sheets of the insulation board with shiny back. I covered the front of each board with batting and secured with duct tape all around the back. placed the two boards side by side on my wall and anchored them with deck screws. I now have a design wall that covers 8' by 8'. I love it!

My husband purchased 4 pieces of plastic plumbing pipe & 4 elbows & pieced them together. I bought wide width flannel & made sleeves on all 4 sides & slid the pipe into them. I lean it up against the wall when I need to use it. Total cost around $20. I don't have a wall where I wanted it tacked up permanently & this is easy to take down when we have company.

well I did something different! I don't have a wall I use so I put up a design curtain. Dh did end up putting me up a rod and I made this blanket into a sliding curtain. Since it gets moved I do pin my blocks to it but it is working great! I don't have a pic of the rod but here it is while it was tacked up.
