If you get him to make you one and he wants to make more, I am also interested. I would love to have one but haven't convinced myself yet to spend the bucks for this one. Sure looks like it would be simple enough to make if you are good working with wood.

However, it also includes, and I quote from the site: "The retractable insert is made of heavy flannel with vinyl backing and mounted on a steel rod with a super heavy duty steel spring which enables your design to "vanish" when you aren't working on it! Yes, your fabric will roll up - allowing you to pick up where you left off, all your pieces in tact!"

How would you find that component of the unit? Is it as simple as a pull down shade? Seems like it would need to be heavier duty and where would you get the heavy flannel with vinyl backing to put on the shade? Questions, questions. Hope you find the answers and post for us.

I wonder if an old movie screen would work? I know my parents have one somewhere!

It sure looks nice, doesn't it? My guest room doubles as my sewing room, it would be nice to be able to roll things up. Does anyone know the price of this? The idea of using an old movie screen is very interesting too...I think my husband has one somewhere. Hmmmm....

I just bought one at the Road to California show. It is made with tent poles and all breaks down and goes in a bag. It was a little pricey, but since I have no available wall space anywhere in my house...it will work.

We have been discussing these in chat. You can find more heavy duty blinds that would be great for this project.

I just use a flannel backed tablecloth pinned to a wall in my hallway by my quilting studio. I have too much other stuff on my walls in my quilting area. You can get them at a very reasonable price and the work great without a lot of expense. I purchased mine which is a tablecloth for a 12 person table and have plenty of space on it for just about everything. I got it at Bed, Bath & Beyond on sale for less than $5.00. It really works great! I have blinds on my quilting room windows so didn't want to go to the expense of a rolling blind.

I just saw a link to something on here a few days ago that I am going to try. It was taking 2 wreath hooks & putting a curtain rod with a felt backed table cloth attached to it on the hooks. It showed the tablecloth between the hooks & made for a kind of skinny design wall, but I think you could made it bigger by cutting some slits in the tablecloth to slip over the hooks. I need something that I can take down & store & this will be perfect. I know this is hard to envision, so I will try to find the link!

I have one and love it! It was worth the $s to me, because no one I know is handy enough to make it.
