I would like to learn to design my own paper piecing projects. I can't find what I want on the internet. I have searched and searched. I have looked for websites that would help teach me. No luck.
Does anyone know where to get this info or can anyone do a tut on it. Thanks for any help. |
There is one where a known designer shows how to convert a pattern to a paper piecing pattern. Though I had it bookmarked. I'll look further.
Kit OK, this is from Carol Doak: http://www.caroldoak.com/free-quilt-patterns.php Hope it helps! |
You can do just about anything you like! Just make sure pieces don't run into each other and keep track of where you are going when you number your boxes. It really is not hard. Take a look at some of the more complicated paper piecing patterns, and watch how they do them. You will be making your own very soon. I just did a spiky elongated circle from combining a couple patterns I had seen.
And converting a pattern to paper piecing is pretty much the same process of watching what color comes next. I do it all the time with patterns that have a lot of triangles. , which I have trouble with if they are not paper pieced. |
Have you considered EQ 7?...you can design a block and then chose paper piecing as an option, I think?
|
that sounds like fun

Try looking a paper folding patterns - and extending the lines

I do it all of the time in EQ. I figure it paid for itself in the first year by not buying patterns. Most of the blocks convert easily to PP in the program and the rest are easily drawn using their tools.
Another option is to try a free CAD program. DB showed me several that were similar to EQ as far as being able to draw out blocks and put them into a quilt, you can even add borders. EQ is easier, as it is made to do all of this, but these other programs are a free option :D:D:D |
Thank you I looked at this one. I want to make pictures not blocks into paper pieced projects.
For instance a motorcycle. I found one online but it is a "Rice Burner" style not a "Chopper" style. A while back I was looking for an owl, I found several realistic ones but I wanted a cute cuddle type one. Anyway we all on the board will keep looking and suggesting and I am sure someone will come up with something. I have E6 not E7 and buying E7 is not an option right now. |
what is EQ ; EQ7 ; DD...when talking about designing your own paper piecing by numbers quilt patterns?????
|
EQ is short for Electric Quilt, a block/quilt designing software. 7 is the 7th version of the program. This is an old thread, but I thought it bore explaining.

Here's a FREE quilt program specilly for turning your pictures into PP patterns (Quiltassistant)
