I need help in getting the points of leaves and designs that have points in applique. Can anyone give me some pointers to make them look like points instead of round nubs?

Thank you,
Mina

Mina,
I've always found that a quick spritz of spray starch and touching an iron to the points to "crease-in" those points before pinning them to the fabric helps me. Trimming a hair closer and making the small allowance even a bit smaller on one side sometimes helps, too. Practice was what really worked for me, though.

I like my points really, really pointy and spend a lot of time on them. A girlfriend of mine is not so picky and doesn't mind a little bit of rounding, you just have to decide what you can live with.

I don't do much applique, but sometimes if I take a stitch right in the point I find I can turn the other side and not lose the point.

If you will go to www.p3designs.com, there is a master applique instructor, Pearl Pererra, and she just posted on her forum a picture diagram for doing the points on leaves. I have used her techniques for quite some time now and she is great. She also sells a DVD of her techniques on her site and is currently doing a free block of the month on a quilt she is designing using veggies and spices in applique. The forum is free and she will answer any questions you have on applique. She's great!!
