DH Made Me a Block Setting Board
 

I was working on a block with a lot of little pieces the other day & every time I'd get them almost set, the fan would blow them all over the room & I'd have to chase them down before my cockatoo started chewing on them. (He loves fabrics almost as much as I do!). Anyway, I mentioned it's too bad I didn't have an 18" square, lightweight board covered with flannel to lay them out on. That way, they'd stick to the flannel better. He went out to his shed and came in with an 18" piece of oak luan plywood & then we went out with a flanell fat quarter & he used the spray adhesive to carefully stick the flannel to it. It's fantastic!! :-)

I have several "mini design walls" from 12" and up ... next best thing to my big design wall. Holds pieces as I sew at the machine and moves nicely from sewing machine to ironing board too.

What a great idea! I just may have to do something like that myself. :)

*Hint* ... you might want to use something softer than a plywood, so that if you decide to stick in pins, you can do so. Mine are made of tentest, and covered with flannelette or polar fleece. For the better part, I do not use pins, but sometimes I want to pin a template to the board, or notes on piece measurements, etc .... obviously, paper doesn't stay put, so the pins make it handy!

DH cut a sheet of foam insulation board into different sizes for me. (not because he thought of it but because I marked the board and asked him to do it.) I covered them with felt and have a stack of them in my sewing room. I always finding uses for them. They come in handy when doing demos at guild, hold block pieces, pinning wet blocks to block into shape, I use the biggest one as a bulletin board to pin up all the misc things a quilting room seems to collect that I was constantly pinning to my design wall.

I've got one by Dritz called a Quilter's 3-Way Sandboard. It has the felt surface for designing, a textured surface for marking/stenciling fabric, and the white laminate for writing and tracing. Mine is 1/8" thick and 12 1/2" x 12 1/2." I use mine a lot, wish it was as large as yours. Gotta love it when hubby gets the hint. ~~:thumbup:~~
